I started in B52H (daughter flies 3 tail numbers in the USAFR,from my GForks Sq 80-82), then T38 IP, USAFR A-10 for 10 years and 1 more time in T-38 when we started them in the USAFR. Bunch of airliners now.
Ok good story, a few years back. Hollywood has been to Shreveport many times since Katrina to make movies. My daughter has a friend in her B52 unit (a B52 IP), he looks like he belongs in Hollywood. He had done a small part in a Mike Douglas movie in the past, got a small speaking part in another movie MD did in SHV. When they were done, MD tells this guy that he understands he is a pilot. MD has a G-5 and tells this guy his "Captain" has just retired and offers him the job. The B52 pilot tells him he can''t afford him. MD looks at his assistant and asks him how much they paid last guy, his assistant says around 250K, MD offers over 300K............he got turned down! B52 pilot did have other "gigs" to pay the bills. MD told him all he would do was fly him and his family to their 5 houses all over the worldd!
Thank you for your service and please pass along a thank you to your daughter for her service from this old retired USAF E-8.
He turned down 300K? How much do B52 pilots make? I didn't think even generals made that kind of money.
B-52s are amazing, don't remember how long they've been in service, but I have heard that there are grandsons and granddaughters of past B-52 crew members flying them now!
