That list is fairly long, but here goes. T-37 IP, C-7s, C-130E/H, C-9s, C-5s and C-141s. During my TAC airlift days I flew in a couple of exercises with A-10s flying ground suppression support, was always jealous of the A10 guys, looked like they were having as much fun as you could have with your clothes on!
Many years ago while I was still on active duty and living at the AF Academy, one of my neighbors was a ground controller assigned to the 4th ID at Fort Carson. The A-10s deployed to Peterson for a week flying CAS down range at Carson. He got me access to a VIP viewing area for an afternoon session. Hell of a show.
My father is older than you and was Navy, but flew some of the close sister planes - T-34 (out of New Iberia as a training officer) P-2, P-3, C2 in Vietnam off of the CVA-43 Coral Sea and lastly his favorite before he retired, the C12. Thank you for your service and effort. I used to help guard the A-10s in Belle Chasse and loved to watch them fly!
Yep. Amazingly, it almost didn't make it into production. A lot of Air Force generals didn't want it. Wasn't glamorous enough. Thank goodness they were over ruled.
Should have been a Marine plane. Would have been a fantastic upgrade from the OV-10 with teeth! Too bad the pissing match about missions kept so many sensible things from happening.
