i believe free trade and free markets create prosperity. thats not some petty sniping, thats real policy that affects billions. global wealth is increased by allowing people to be free and pay less taxes. and wealth is the real issue for most of the world's population. not the environment, not whether obama salutes whoever.

far and away the issue that is most important to humanity is creating globwal wealth. people die by the millions of poverty, in the form of disease and political unrest and malnutrition and whatever else. africans die of aids not because aids is so unstoppable, but because they are poor as hell. the solution is free trade. and that starts with us. we need to be the leader economy, we need to be so rich that poor people all over the world build factories and sweatshops to make stuff for our wal-marts. we need be as rich as possible and consume as much as possible. this is the real issue. and that is why taxes are bad. they ruin everything.

Yeah, fine. But "obama is trying his best to increase misery around the globe " is hyperbole and playing political games.

That may be political but not far off the scope. I don't believe that increasing the role of govt and decreasing my rights as a citizen or a consumer equates to prosperity. And I do believe that many liberals derive their power from "helping the little guy" up. Keeping them down is one way to ensure you can always help them up.

A bit cynical perhaps, but we have all seen instances of this in politicians. At the end of the day, the govt wants more $ & more power. That is not a prosperous way to go.

hyperbole yes, not literally true. his actual goal isnt to ruin us. but he is favoring policy that is as bad as possible, for actual real-world results that restrict human advancement.

the president should basically be doing one thing: maintaining a free system whereby people are able to pursue their own interests without manipulation. this means defending us from lunatics, and providing a basic structure of order. with this, people will flourish, they will become rich and happy. the less you manage them the better, because the world is too complicated to be managed by central authorities. people know what they are doing.

so that is all that matters. that is what the president should be doing. but he is doing the opposite, he is growing the government and assuming more and more control of everything. this is the opposite of what we need and has a pretty damn big impact on the world. human progress is enabled by freedom, thats what we need to understand.
