Auburn beats Alabama and Florida beats Alabama. Will Alabama dropping in the polls after losing to Auburn keep Florida out of the BCSCG? Because if Alabama looses to Auburn then beats Florida obviously neither gets to the BCSCG. I don't see any of these scenarios actually happening because I think Alabama beats Auburn and Florida will beat Alabama. But, what if......

    You answered your own question.

Texas and OU play for the championship.

I would not be against a rematch, as one of these 2 will be screwed come Sunday afternoon, with no good answer as to whom should have been left out of the Big 12 CG.

If Bama loses even by 1 point to Auburn, they will fall to at least 5th in the BCS, behind USC, and most likely behind Utah and Texas Tech as well.

Which, for all intense and purposes, means they are out.

I may be reading the thread incorrectly, but it seems to me everyone has answered for every possible scenario except the specific question you asked.

So Auburn beats Bama AND Florida continues to win by beating Fla State. Alabama would drop in the BCS from Number 1 to somewhere between #4 and #8. Florida would rise to #3.

Assuming both win Texas and Oklahoma would rise to #1 and 2.

Florida wins SEC championship and Big 12 winner is either #1 or #2 team (any losses here knock out the loser).

So, does Florida rise to #2. I think most likely because pollsters would be reluctant to see a 1 loss SEC team excluded from the playoff AND one of the Big 12's teams will have sat out its championship game AND Florida will have beaten a #4-8 team AND pollsters may be reluctant to set up a rematch. BUT the pollsters will need to move Florida to a strong #2 because the computers would set up a Big 12 rematch.

And don't discount the Orange Bowl factor. If you think politics is never involved it does not matter, but if the Orange Bowl puts its thumb on the scale it will lean heavily to Florida because the folks in Miami have always preferred a home team. When you consider how bad the Big East and ACC are and the fact that the Orange Bowl is going to get shafted with some bad teams, then a Florida-centric Championship game a week later makes up for the Orange Bowl getting screwed.

You are correct. I missed out on the question, entirely.

Florida is only #4 in the BCS because of the computer polls. Wins over Florida State and Bama will take care of that.

Florida will remain ahead of OU and Texas in the human polls and close the gap considerably in the computer polls. A Bama loss to Auburn hurts Florida to some degree, but not near enough to matter. OU would be 1.00 (assuming they end up winning the Big 12 title), Texas .960 and Florida .920, somewhere in that range. If Bama stays #1, Florida gets closer to a .950 computer poll finish.

Once Florida annihilates Bama, the voters will widen the gap between them and the Big 12 teams.

So Florida getting beyond 1 or both of the Big 12 schools in the BCS is not in question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Texas Tech wins against Baylor (which they will) they play in the Big 12 CG against Mizzou most likely. So, you are telling me if that is true then 2 teams who did not win their conference would play in the BCSCG? If that is the case, we REALLY need some sort of playoff.

The tie-breaker in the Big 12 will come down to the highest BCS ranking out of OU, Texas and Texas Tech, should all 3 end up with just 1 conference loss. That means Tech has no shot. If OU loses to Okie-st, which could happen, then Tech plays Mizzou. If they go on to beat Mizzou, the voters would have to decide if Tech deserves the shot at Florida instead of Texas, who didn't even get to play in the Big 12 championship. Could that happen? I suppose. Tech's computer poll ranking will probably end up being close to Texas' after a win over Mizzou. All the voters would have to do is put Tech over Texas. And in this instance, I think they should.

We NEED a playoff, period. Look how many teams are out of it already. And why? Many teams have zero or one loss, yet everyone is talking about only 4-5 teams in significant contention. Not only will UT or OU get left out, but so will TTU, USC, Utah, maybe ALA (after just one late season loss potentially), or maybe FLA, etc. It's ridiculous and it's a shame (or sham, if you prefer). A playoff would create even more excitement amongst more fan bases, IMO, as those teams would still have a shot as the bowl/playoff season approaches. Those playoff/bowl games would be a helluva lot more exciting with more riding on the outcome, i.e. get to progress to next bowl/level, as opposed to "oh, we won the Outback Bowl, yippee".
