If you mean a top 10 job now, I'll agree. If you mean a top school in a power 5 Conference I'll take that bet, it's only a matter of time. So will briles. Petrino is working. Anyone can. AND if Kiffen and Briles win enough, and if a top 10 Ad feels desperate enough, they can get there.
I was just thinking about that too. I know he's been DC at a couple of SEC schools, but never really followed him. Is he a good DC? His defenses at Texas never really measured up.
I see many are upset over O getting the job. I'm happy to see a fellow Cajun get the opportunity. As a fan, I'm a bit unsure. The Bama, and especially the UF game gives me concern. As a whole, he did a solid job with what he had to work with. He fielded a team that fought hard. He did a tremendous job of changing the mind set of a defeated team. At the end of the day there are probably only 3 or 4 big time coaches right now. Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh are definites. I'd also throw Swinney in there. LSU was not getting any of them, although they should have made a run at Swinney. Jimbo warrants the money, but he is nowhere near that eschelon of coach. As mentioned, Herman is a prodigy, but still a bit unproven. Truthfully we were taking a risk no matter who would have hired. I'd have liked to have seen LSU consider someone like James Franklin. He was recruiting well and turning Vanderbilt around. Freaking Vanderbilt! He went to PSU and has turned them around. I think if he gets a good OC, Coach O can do well. He probably won't out X and O top tier coaches, but neither did Miles. He will give that to his assistants, O will have a team of unity. That will play hard till the end. I hope he gives LSU another title.
Tier 1 doesnt mean p5 team to me. Hell wake forest is a power 5 team. They might hire us as hc for football.
Let's start here. We both know the current administration is not made up of the smartest people in the room, so what they think is irrelevant. Second, the fact that they are only paying him 2.75 Million is a measure of what the demand for him on the market was; it is not a measure of reality. Third, again, what the rest of the country thinks is irrelevant; we're not after what people think is good, we are after what is actually good. You watched him this season; don't you think he's had a great improvement since he left Ole Miss? The loss to Florida was mainly a function of the failure of the players to execute. I put some of the loss on him, but he didn't fumble the ball or botch a snap in that game. Finally, he shut Saban out for 3.5 quarters himself. What other coach has gone toe-to-toe with Saban this season? You can't fall into the trap where our coach needs to have beaten Saban because not many coaches are going to do so, especially not during their first time they face him. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is. As for the fact that people don't think of him as likely to out-coach others, I agree, but it doesn't matter to me because people think of Aranda and (hopefully) Kiffin as likely to out-coach others. O will come off as a coach that will have his team ready to kick ass every week, and I'll take that over an X's and O's guy.
I will support O while he is head coach but I believe in my heart this is the worst possible outcome. O is not qualified to be head coach at Delta State much less at LSU and this move will send us back to the Archer/Hallman/Dinardo days of LSU football. We actually hired the worst football coach in the history of Ole Miss football. We are the laughing stock of the college football world thanks to Alleva and company.
