With all the uncertainty leading up to Saturday night's game in the Georgia Dome, the media is licking it's chops, no doubt. Nothing creates a buzz like a bunch of controversy - real or fabricated.

But regardless of the outcome of the game, somebody's gonna be 1-0 late Saturday night. And how they got there won't matter one little bit until the end of the season, when stregnth of schedule might matter in BCS calculations.

If UNC, short-manned to some degree and reeling from distractions, beats LSU in Atlanta - well, Butch Davis can smile for a bit before having to refocus on all the negativity he's surely surrounded with right now. Many LSU fans, in this scenario, will go apechit and make early predictions of a heinous season, calling for coaches to be fired, etc., etc. But in truth, the Tarheels aren't ranked 18th (AP) to the Tigers 21st for nothing. UNC is a good football team, run by a very experienced head coach, and they are well-capable of beating LSU, even short-handed.

If LSU wins the game, the pundits and many LSU fans will pounce upon the excuse that UNC was tied to a tree, and that LSU's win must be qualified by NCAA problems for the Tarheels. Bull. Football programs are what they are, and you cannot separate talent and gameplan from recruiting and administration. Injuries matter. Coaching matters. Talent matters. Team chemistry matters. Adherence to NCAA rules matters. If LSU beats UNC on Saturday, it won't be because of any other reason than this: LSU was the better team on Saturday night. And they get the W.

Everything else is simply sour grapes. No one will blame an LSU loss on injuries to Ryan Baker, Karnell Hatcher, Chris Tolliver and DeAngelo Peterson. So no one should blame a Tarheel loss on their NCAA problems. It's all part of the game.

At the end of the season, if the Tarheels have won every other football game, and their defense is back in stride and playing lights out - they will still have been beaten by LSU - and it will be because LSU was the better team on Saturday night.

Because the team is more than just talent.

In my opinion, Coach Les Miles and his staff have this part of running a football program down, cold.

So, no excuses on Sunday morning outside of what happens inbetween the lines. The rest of it is just drama.

unfortunately true. i'll also predict that the same will be echoed more by our fans than theirs.

    true

we got lots and lots who live for those sour grapes. step into the chat or the game thread during the game and they'll be there declaring that the sky is falling.

    wanna bet? :)

just get ready for it, because it is going to happen. It's like playing Utah in the BCS, or Notre Dame in the BCS, it's a lose, lose situation. If you win, well look at UNC, they lost so many, you were supposed to win, if we lose, well we lose... Not a good thing right now for us. We need to go out there and DOMINATE!!!

Exactly. Unless we win a huge convincing fashion. A nice solid total domination like we handed UM in the Peach Bowl would suffice I think.:geauxtige :geaux: :LSU231:

That's how I look at it. No matter the situation, people are going to belittle that win.. so I say hang half a hundred on them if you even get the slightest hint of an opportunity to do so. Run the damn score up and to hell with whoever doesn't like it. It's a competitive sport; if someones little feelings get hurt by getting the hell beat out of them, they shouldn't be playing/watching.

    Yeah, I'm a little anxious.

You said it. I got my media guide the other day and can't put it down. A little burnt out on the Hype videos and this came just in time to help me get through the last few days before I lose my mind.:LSU231: :geaux: :geauxtige

There's no excuse for LSU not to beat the hell out of UNC tonight. LSU is more talented even if UNC was at full strength.

Now if the game is still up for grabs in the 4th quarter and it's decided on the last possession, then we are definitely in trouble. We will be looking at yet another 4-5 loss season.

    We will see.
