That certainly was surprising. However, it was also completely out of character. I wouldn't sweat it. There were some big upsets yesterday. We weren't even close to being one of them. :thumb: That's an overstatement. But we have given up some passing yardage. This has been one of our biggest issues. Our secondary is actually very good, but almost anyone will have a good day if they get 6 - 9 seconds to find a receiver on most downs. Different team, different stadium :thumb: , different situation. Fear not. Isn't that how it always works? :thumb: FWIW: I think injuries and a different QB (completely different style) threw the defensive plan in the crapper. The Tigers adjusted, but Ole Miss just kept playing. Gotta give them credit. :geaux:
When things are changed by the opposing team, we need to change accordingly. We should be able to tackle a mobil QB as well as a not so mobil QB. I am not saying to wave a magic wand and change at a moments notice, but we should be prepared to stop anyone. All things start with the O & D lines. We need to pressure the QB (period) by whatever means is necessary. Things will improve with the LB and secondary play when this is accomplished. Get to the QB and get off of the field. My honest opinion is that the defense is physically and mentally tired. LSU!
In my opinion this is exactly it. -DB's cant cover forever. -DL can't get pressure all the time with a four man rush. We need to find a median in helping both positions out, and we have not been as successful lately doing that. But I guess most are spoiled with our defenses over the last 5 years or so and are really missing out on a great time in LSU history and will probably kill themselves if we have an eight win year. I am not old at all and remember the nineties, maybe some others should too.
schaffer is fast. my problem was that LSU looked like they prepared for seth adams and no one else under center. running qb's will give most defenses fits in college fb but it seems like we had a lot of problems containing #7. i've gotten to the point after seeing oregon and oklahoma go down this week that i really don't care how we win, as long as we win. in fact, i don't want an air of invincibility. LSU seems to play better when faced with long odds. but however you slice it this team is still #1 and opponents will continue to treat us that way.
True enough and sandwiched in between Ohio St and USC. Hasn't done much to keep us in the hunt though. IMO, you have to look at what's driving the rating and what's keeping it from excelling. LSU's D is rated #1 in Pass Efficiency but that almost seems counterintuitive since the 13 TD's you've given up is the highest amount of the teams in the top 5. The one stat that keeps LSU up in this category (I think) is INT's where you have 19. In Pass Defense, LSU is rated 9th, and Rushing Defense rated 4th. Any or all of those combinations are more than enough to win a NC. What could happen to prevent that is luck, penalties, or injuries. CLM went 9-9 in 4th down attempts a few weeks back but that's a huge gamble and gets bigger as you near the CCG and the NC. Plus the amount of fumble recoveries LSU has had is almost uncanny. Not much to do in avoiding injuries but penalites can be a killer.
Wow, there's a newsflash. I hadn't realized that USC lost to Stanford. But that one you can pin squarely on PC's shoulders. He's acknowledged that coaching arrogance cost us that game. Happy now?
This is a horrible thread. Hey go watch a Saints game if you want to see a terrible Defensive Coordinator and an all around slow patchy defense. We will be lucky if Pelini decides to stay. Give our team some credit for winning! Go play in traffic:geaux:
