Yes, I played sports. And you weren't ever being yelled at on national TV in front of millions of viewers. I don't mind a coach showing emotion, but Saban and some other coaches look like they are purposely trying to embaress a player, and players can view it as such. There's no need for that.
But did he? I'm not so sure he did. I agree that players should not be publicly humiliated. But in the absence of leadership by the players themselves, sometimes a dose of emotion by the coach can go a long way. I do have hope with Jefferson. He has the potential to be a fine team leader. He just does not quite have all the tools yet.
Lee has and has had a considerable advantage in understanding the playbook. It just didn't translate consistently for Lee. Miles specifically said before the Troy game that Jefferson had many leaps in his understanding. This is why he starting seeing more PT at that point.
I did. Got my azz chewed, yanked around by the face mask, forced to run stadiums, etc. etc. etc. But not on Friday nights when the lights were on. That always happened in practice, or in the field house. And my coach was an absolute azzhole son-of-a-bitch behind closed doors. In public, everyone thought he was a quiet humble man. Personally, I think he was skizo.
Any coach that does it with that purpose in mind is an idiot. However, I know Saban didn't and would guess there are very few coaches on this level that have that mentality. Trust me fear is great motivation. But it's not fear of the coach, it's fear of letting your team down. It's the coaches job to point out when that happens.
y'all are right. JJ wasn't even on campus for Spring practice, but when he showed up for fall camp, he looked like an all american. But Les decided "phuck it! I'm gonna pizz off the entire fan base and start the sh!tty kid instead"
"Fear" is exactly what some coaches have in mind, and fear of being embaressed is no different to them.
