1. Les Miles is a great recruiter, but has done reletively horrible developing the players he has brought in. 2. Several have noticed the stubbornness of Miles since he has been here. JJ's play only confirms that Miles is too big headed to admit he was wrong and just play the best player. There is no way in Hell you can tell me Lee looked that much better in practice that after the season he has had we didn't think JJ was as ready as Lee. 3. The co-DC's is the worst coaching decision since Tepper. However we get post game speeches about how wel the defense played while giving up 40 points. 4. We can all look JUST at Miles' record prior to this season and say well he has done a hell of a job. But really, he didn't develop those players. He won a NC with two losses and the luck of a 30 pt underdog upsetting a pretty good West Virginia team. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it however we can get it, but I think now is when you are seeing what we really have. 5. There is no discipline on this team. That goes all on the head coach. He is not even disciplined. Just seems to let every thing go by during the game. I wonder what the hell he is doing sometimes. It appears not much. Now to the good stuff. 1. The Co-DC crap should be over. Today would be a perfect day to end it. Lets let and interim coach the defense in the bowl, maybe that will fire em up. 2. We have some young guys that should they get the proper coaching (big question mark) will be stars. Peterson, B. Taylor, Baker, P Jones, all showed some promise, with an emphasis on Peterson. I think that he will be one of those rare guys that just don't come around to often. 3. JJ is it. All other efforts at coaching up the QB should be second tier. If his abilities arn't something to build on then nothing is. He is the complete package. Just a little raw. Looking forward to watching him over the next few years. 4. Because of the way things turned out, Lafell is the only guy I see that we have to worry about leaving early. Everyone else with eligibility should be back. We find an Oline and we will be able to score like Texas Tech. I'm sure there is more. This is just what I can think of right now. All in all the year sucked, but not like the 90's. We will be fine if Miles makes the right decisions in the off season. If he doesn't we will still be fine because he won't last very long coaching like this.
I think your post was pretty spot on. Les Miles' weak point is player evaluation and deciding who to put on the field to give us our best shot at winning.
The problem I have is that Crowton's play calling gets us 20 pts. in the 2nd quarter, then all of a sudden, Leslie wants to play call in the 2nd half. What's up with that? I heard Fisher left for the same reason.
... wrong. he has been the coach the previous three years and this one too. he developed the players that were great last year and you cannot deny that at all. before you argue that, well you can't because he was their head coach for THREE YEARS out of four year careers, nobody else was. this is fact. we also had new qbs, which saban had his last year here and he had a less than stellar season as well. the dual coordinator decision was horrible. but this will be changed after this year and we will move ahead. although i agree with most of what you said, it's all conjecture and cannot be proven. with the exception of number 4 which is wrong.
What players? Last year, Miles developed every one of those players. What has changed? Miles can develop players, it just isn't obvious this year. Did you notice JJ's second half performance? He became quite easy to gameplan against. And let's not forgot how many games we are into the season. JJ is much improved from the player he was at the beginning of the season, as Miles noted before the Troy game when he started to see real PT. It was a bad choice, but the difference is that it will be corrected after a single season. Not one player from last year's NC had more than 1 season under Saban (except K Pittman). He developed those players. Why do it now? It will remain behind closed doors until after national signing day, IMO.
