I read this from a former progressive and found it hits the nail on the head. When progressives take over everything goes to shit. I’m sure @Rex will say it’s because San Francisco isn’t really a progressive city and real progressive policies haven’t ever been tried. Yea right Rexie https://twitter.com/michelletandler/status/1475162130236149764?s=21
From San Francisco to Appalachia and everywhere in between, America has a major addiction problem to deal with. People will put up with a lot. For a long time Californians watched as incompetent leaders turned a great economy and the nation's highest taxes into mountains of debt and subpar public services. Things happen though, when people feel unsafe in their own neighborhood. Here's what happens next, in order of least to most likely: CA Republicans start to win elections, CA democrats adopt a tougher on crime stance and repudiate the fringe element, those with the means will leave for the suburbs or leave the state altogether (already in progress).
Hopefully California republicans will be mature enough to govern well rather than taking a knee jerk turn to equally radical conservative governance. We need a more libertarian approach with personal freedom, economic reform to reduce the burden on business & growth and limited government intervention in private affairs.
Just what would that be? Too much freedom? Maybe they will cut all taxes to zero? Like really, what in the hell are you talking about?
Every city, and especially SF, is filled with the kind of people who say all the right things, put all the right signs in their yards, vote for all the right people, support all the right causes until.......there is a proposal for low-income and/or high-density housing in their neighborhood. They'll fight like hell against that.
