I just wanted to revisit this thread. First of all WestCoast, it appears that the game didn't lose as much meaning as you believed it did. Just like in 2003, if you're not factually eliminated, then IT AIN'T OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER! As slim as the chance was, it was a chance and look what might be happening. NOBODY thought OU would lose in 03, but it happened. That's why they play the game. And there obviously were a number of LSU fans that dropped their tix after the loss. It showed in the stadium because Tennessee had about 75% of the fans and I really was a little taken back by that. Too many people gave up all hope. And I didn't state anything about who is or isn't a true fan. I just stated that a number of people were temporarily catching the bandwagon virus. And I certainly wasn't saying anything about being a better fan than another person. It's just that some people seemed like the true fans over others based on their words and actions. And yeah, some fans are just better than others. Nobody cares and you don't win anything for it, but that's the way it is. Anyway, the environment in the dome was awesome. Even though it took awhile for the LSU crowd to get going, by the 4th quarter they were rocking. We just didn't have a bunch of exciting plays to get real crazy about for a while. And Les grabbed the mic after the game and showed his appreciation in a classy way to the fans who were still rocking the stadium after the game was over. And for LSUDeek, I still can't give you an answer on why you would have wanted to pay money to go and see LSU lose. It might have been something I could have answered had LSU lost. Unfortunately, LSU won and so the question doesn't make since anymore. LSU = 2007 SEC CHAMPIONS and possibly BCSCG Bound! End of Story.
well since we're revisiting this thread i'll address this. of course everything is different now that it looks like we'll be in the national championship game. as you said, at the time we didn't know who the coach was going to be, now we do. so at the time we were going into next season with less stability than we'll have now. but that wasn't why i predicted what i did, and still do. i predict us losing 3+ games next year for this reason alone. DEFENSE. we will certainly not have the same DC. we will lose 3 of our 4 secondary members. the two back up corners who will be the starters next season have virtually zero game time experience. we lose ali highsmith, glenn dorsey, kirston pittman (most likely) and whomever else wants to go into the draft. so we'll be in the same situation as florida this year. a damn good team with no experience. so i'm not being negative, i'm being realistic. the problem with this season was expectations and that's why people got bummed out so easily. even though we made it into the national championship game, we did so only because two other teams lost on saturday. not because we won. just think if we hadn't been expecting to go undefeated all year? people would be going nuts right now.
tenebrism, We are possibly going to the BCSCG because WE WON. Yes, two other teams lost, but had we lost just like them, we wouldn't be having this conversation about LSU and a BCSCG appearance. Our team didn't give up.
ok these are valid points if you didn't already say that you'd stop going to games if we went 7-5. that is the definition of fairweather, only being there win it's good. so end of that argument. also throwing in that jab about people not having season tickets is just low-brow. number one, we don't all have money to spend on them plus the tradition fund. some of us (like me) are just out of school and more focused on paying off student debts rather than season tickets. number two, some people (like me) have family season tickets and we rotate who goes when. has nothing to do with only going when they want to. regardless of that, i made it to every home game this year except for middle tennessee and auburn without having season tickets. am i still less than because i don't have season tickets in my name?
