Can the defense defend a running QB better than last season? How much rope will we give the QB(s)? Ultra conservative or let it fly if the play calls for it? Will punt returns actually be a weapon of ours this season (as it should be with all the athletes on this team), or will we still be praying just to fair catch it without a fumble? Who takes over in the short yardage situations to replace Hester?
What red said, plus the running backs. I was on Scott's bandwagon last year and predicted he'd replace Hester (or try to). I like his balance of power and speed, and it sounds like he's been a quiet leader in camp. Murphy had a good spring, needs to show it in the season. I find myself pulling for Williams now, as it seems many fans have forgotten about him, and I pull for the underdog. I want all of our backs to succeed, and especially Williams. I know he's dropped the ball a couple of times, but so did LaFell last year, but he rehabilitated himself. I'm pulling for a comeback by Williams. I hope Charles Alexander comes all the way back from his knee. If so, our d-line will be monstrous! Notice the pace of posts on the forum pick up this week? Game must be gettin close!!
I want to see us play a mistake-free game. No turnovers, very few penalties. I want to see a well-prepared, well-coached team. We had a lot of stupid penalties last year. I would hope all eleven players know the snap count this year.
I want to see how well the linebacker play will be. It seems people skim over the fact that LSU doesn't have a lot of experience and depth at that position, except for Beckwith. Who else is going to step up and be a tackle machine?
houtiger, IMO you're right about Williams. CLM will likely rely on his ground game in an effort to take pressure off of the QB position. Williams is one of those backs that always seems to get much stronger when he gets a lot of carries and develops an effective rhythm .... he takes a while to warm up, but after a few good collisions, he seems to rise to the challenge and finish his runs very strong. I'd love to know what his YAC is, broken down by quarter .... I'll wager his 2nd half YAC is "way mas macho" than his 1st half YAC. :thumb:
I agree. The other thing about Williams is we all know he can run the sweep with the best of them. His running between the tackles is suspect. Some think he avoids contact and is not strong. I think I read that he was working out to improve his strength. I hope so, and I hope he has a great season. I'd like to see him fulfill the promise he rode into town. Charles Scott had him some credentials also. He was the #1 back in La. that year, and I think Mr. Football in La. and 4*. The difference between 4 and 5 stars can be small, and sometimes the service gets it backwards, as we all have seen. I think 4th and 1 goes to Scott to lug the rock. Dang, I'm glad its football season.
In no particular order: What Crowton's got up his sleeve. Trindon. Chad Jones, hitting someone so hard I can feel it through the tv. Clean play with few penalties. Dominant lines on both sides wearing down the Appy State's lines. Special teams, particularly the punting unit. The band.
minimal penalties. a qb that looks confident. interested in how the co-dc system works. want to see a win!
