He's the 4th running back right now. 0-0 passing. Lee has come in every time that Jefferson had to go out and is 3-3 with a TD.
Shep isnt the 2nd QB. He hasnt even thrown a freakin pass in college yet. If we are going to develop him as a QB though he will need to throw some passes in a game and play some mop up time. If he keeps playing the role he is now and JJ continues to be the starter, Sheppard will never develop enough be the starting QB. Maybe he needs to be a Harvin type player instead of a QB. His story has yet to unfold completely so we'll see.
Exactly my feeling. Why mess with with his head? Then we'll have 2 quarterbacks who feel like they have to be perfect and neither will have a chance to be. I know JL was a victim last year and it wasn't completely his fault, but he did have his chance. JJ won the job through the last couple of games, the peach bowl, spring training, and fall camp. He has not given anybody reason to bench him. Can't throw the long ball (yet at least)? He doesn't have to be JaMarcus Russell to be successful. I'm just glad he's not turning the ball over and putting our O and D in bad situations. Hes a true sophmore, the youngest QB in the SEC, but he is surrounded by skill. Once he starts playing like the skill around him, he'll be deadly. If you split him, he won't have a chance to get there. It's a cliche, but 2 QBs = 0 QB. We shouldn't put him out there, tell him he's the man, and sit him down after 3 games (wins much less) cause he hasn't hit the bombs. We don't need the bombs as much as other teams cause our receivers can take screens and crossing routes the distance. We need our running game to get going and take the pressure off JJ and get better coverages for stretching the field. Please, no JL
Jefferson is the man until Jefferson proves that Lee is a better option. That's not very likely, but it's far more possible than some believe. Our offense will become incredibly predictable, and Jefferson will start getting sacked and picked off a lot on short passes, if the vertical passing game doesn't open up. I think Shep throws a little on Saturday, particularly if LSU gets a comfy lead. I also think JJ attempts more deep balls. Not only to get his confidence up but to give SEC defensive coordinators a deeper threat to gameplan against.
Yes, but I don't think its an either/or situation. Jefferson has yet to throw a 200-yard passing game. LSU is dead last in SEC offense. Jefferson must change both of these numbers soon or Les will have to find a way to get some more passing offense out of this team. We are loaded with HS All-American receivers who must get the ball, so a "running quarterback" won't cut it. if Lee has to play some more for LSU to move the ball downfield, then it will happen. LSU's record is more important than Jefferson's psyche.
You and I are in violent agreement. That's precisely what I mean by Jefferson proving that Lee is a better option. He has got to step it up.
that all sounds fine and dandy, but Miles wont make that change until the wheels fall off, at least that is what history would dictate.
