Unless it's somewhere else and I missed it, I think you're correct. I found this and it only speaks to the "Dead ball" if.... Check it out. I didn't know that. http://www.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/batter_6.jsp
i am certain its a dead ball when it hits a player and allowed first even though the above doesnt clarify. many times a ball will hit someone and deflect and go all kinds of crazy places on the field. certainly runners cant advance/run home in this instance. Its a dead ball. (or so I think)
Makes sense to me. Also, the pain that accompanies getting hit ices play too which would be consistent with "Dead ball" thinking. Thanks, when Nootch wasn't sure, I thought of asking you cause I figured you'd know. :thumb:
I was thinking the advance an extra base rule only applied to the batter being walked. In other words if it doesn't affected any other baserunners. Although I'm not sure. I thought forsure tirk would know the rule. Yeah, get to work. You ain't collecting Social Security yet.
There has been speculation that Lidge wouldn't pitch in a close game for awhile, only coming in with a big lead or deficit. He was brought in around the 6th inning or so tonight and looked alright and even got out of a jam that wasn't his fault (E by Everett). I was a little surprised that he got the call in a close game. I think Lidge seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders and obviously has great stuff. If he continues to struggle, sending him down to Triple-A is an option or let him continue trying to work it out in the big leagues. Many fans have been calling for him to be released which makes no sense. He can potentially be a dominant closer for years to come and still probably has some trade value despite the struggles. I didn't hear the interview but apparently Roger Clemens was asked about Lidge and said he thought he was young enough to still have a good career as a starting pitcher. I had never thought about that but you have to listen to The Rocket's thoughts and the Astros could definitely use another good arm in the rotation. It's one of those things that's so crazy it might be worth trying out if all confidence in Lidge as a reliever has been lost.
As most of you know, some of the speculation has centered around whether Lidge was tipping his pitches. In his 6th inning work tonight, he definitely was keeping them tight. None of the batters had a good feel for his velocity, with Ryan Howard being the best example. He was way out in front twice, and then barely got around on the next (and hit to LF.) Lidge seemed to be keeping it simple with fastballs and slider (GO FIGURE) and I had a feeling like it was the old Lidge when he bounced one into Utley's foot. Old Lidge did that kinda crap all of the time. That E by Everett was BS. There either shouldn't have been an error called or it should have been on Berkman for either not catching the throw to first or making an errant throw to 3B. Ironically, Everett made a helluva play to get the ball off the deflection and throw a missile to 1B. If the Gold Glove was based on fielding, he would win it every year.
You are right. http://www.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/ball_in_play_5.jsp 5.09 The ball becomes dead and runners advance one base, or return to their bases, without liability to be put out, when -- (a) A pitched ball touches a batter, or his clothing, while in his legal batting position; runners, if forced, advance;
much better than a hit, walk and a 3 run job to prince fielder then a double isnt it. baby steps.:lol: :lol: he is chase wright's mentor.
