Lidge has lost his confidence, and I'm not sure it's fair to him (or the fans or team) to have him come in during a close game in the 9th. Even when he's off, he has some of the best stuff in baseball. He's just not consistent with his location. That seems to indicate that all is not lost, but I don't know how you fix it. He actually started to falter a few games before the NLCS in '05. It was weird...you could see something was off, and then it blew up in that series. GGFan, I'll be seeing you soon at those Express games. Getting awfully close to moving over that way.
Not over my dead rotting corpse ! Tiga, we ended up winning our first game last night to make it into the championship round. Basically at that point our entire team ran out of gas and we lost, finishing runner up in the tourney. Now its off to Little League (Lafayette) and weekend ball. Glad I got the cage but my arm is about ready to fall off !
You have to wonder if Lidge has a touch of SSS (Steve Sax Syndrome). Good news. I'll look forward to it. We go to about 20 games a year, all Friday and holidays and a few others. I've got tickets to tonite's opener and tomorrow's game. Think I'll pass on tonite as weather outlook ain't too spiffy. Will probably be in the 50s for tomorrow nite's game. I'm thinking I'll cook chili for the tailgate.
this is true. he threw a devastating slider for the 2nd out right before giving up the homer to nady. his stuff has never been the problem. he has to learn to trust his fastball plus locate his slider or he will never be right. he has to be a headcase after answering questions about how he rebounded in the offseason then imploding game 1. what else can you expect from a notre dame guy. must have the mental makeup of brady quinn.
I would pull Lidge from the starter role and replace him with Dan Wheeler. That's the only thing that makes sense.....wait, what's that?.....really? They just did that???? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2830954
Maybe the future is bright. Round Rock is 4-1 and the bullpen has given up 1 run in 21 or so innings. If they keep having that kind of success, were the Astros inclined to send Lidge down, the Express might not want him.
