Not so sure about Moffitt. Our lines have been getting owned by the Gumps and other superior teams for a couple of years. You can't call the line strong when they're pushed back 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage on a running play.
I'd think it would have to be a scheme thing. Lifting weights has been done for years and years. Not re-inventing the wheel there. Besides, isn't the Bama S&C coach a disciple of Moffitt's?
Something else is going on with the O line. They just fell apart ever since the Bama game. I can't blame Moffitt if the players are strong but somehow lost all motivation
For whatever reason, the O-Line lost all confidence after getting embarrassed by Bama. Cut off the head and the body will die. That is what has happened to our team. Can't look to the QB to pick us back up either. A ton of that falls on the coaching and play calling, but Harris has not been good at all at responding to adversity so far in his career at LSU.
Did you see the way Fournette looked at Harris a couple of times after busted plays? Gary Danielson commented on it one time
Moffitt is the head strength coach, but he deals primarily with football. Melissa Moore is the coach for the Olympic sports, but technically works under Moffitt. His other assistants handle the other sports as well, Baseball, soccer, etc.
I posted this in another thread earlier, but I will put it here as well since it came up again. The current S&C coach at Bama, Ole Miss, and FSU all mentored under Moffitt, as did Bama's current assistant, who was previously Florida's head S&C coach for football. Prior to Bama's current assistant working at Florida, he was the head S&C coach at App State when they won the DI-AA National Championship. There are also some guys who worked with Moffitt who have become head S&C coaches at DII schools, and one of them, who is also one of my former students, is working with elite level athletes in another country. All of them run a program that is very similar to that which Moffitt runs, and they are open about saying this. When I was there, and Miles was thinking about leaving for Mich. many of the players, to include the ones who had been there under $aban, said repeatedly that the one guy other than Pelini that they didn't want to lose was Moffitt. Saban tried very hard to get Moffitt to come with him when he left for the NFL and again when he got to Bama. Saban, Fisher, and Muschamp all called Moffitt to get his opinion on who they would hire as S&C coach. Moffitt did not invent what he does, and he is open about giving credit to Gayle Hatch, whom Moffitt also mentored under, and who Moffitt took much of his program from. What Moffitt does is get the guys on the team to buy in and commit, and he is also very organized, and a great motivator.
If Alleva decides to fire Les and the rest of the coaching staff, I would expect the equipment guys, the training staff, and the S&C staff to stay in place.
Could be. I've noticed before the o-line in particular doesn't get a good push. That isn't just Alabama or just his year.
