Very good point. If the LSU Saban was the LSU coach now we would be having much the same conversation. Blue Grass Miricle was just luck, ect ect

Exactly. As I pointed out in another post LSU isn't the same as it was 5-10 yrs ago. LSU fans were ecstatic with 8-9 win seasons, and over the top euphoria when we did better than that, hence one of the reasons Saban is held in such high regard. Now many expect 11-12 win seasons, every yr, and anything less is unacceptable.

If he could take all the crap T.Boone used to say to his FACE, then I am sure a few fans booing does not bother him. T.Boone basically was signing his check and threatening to hold back from infusing money into a program that sorely needed it. You think Gundy does not benefit from the facilities now availible because of T.Boones money. I am sure that carries a lot more pressure when the $$$$ people are holding out, (which ours are not) than a few students and Monday morning QB's booing in the stands.

why list them? they are numerous. the real point is that there are few special coaches but LSU is special.

I think that it would be tough to assemble a staff the caliber of Miles' current staff. The weakest coaches are Studrawa and Crowton, but outside of them it;s top notch. You will; be challenged to find a better group anywhere else in the country. You lose Miles and you will likely see guys like Gonzales, Haley, Chavis, Wilson and Cooper gone. Wilson and Gonzales make this group the best recruiters in college football. Guys like Chavis, Cooper, Gonzales and Haley are excellent teachers at their position and get the most out of their group.

(Gonzales: Toliver has never had good hands, RS is learning a new position and Randle is clutch.)

I have no real issue with Miles' coaching. For every mismanaged time clock incident, you have a fake FG for a first down/touchdown. It's a wash.

That being said, if I'm looking for someone I'm calling Jack Del Rio first and I don't give up until he relents. If that doesn't work, I'm chasing down this group in the order I list them:

    1. Chris Petersen, Boise State (Arguably the best head coach in college football. Oh, the things he could do with Southeast US talent.)
    2. Mike Riley, Oregon State (No one does more with less. Has NFL experience.)
    3. Kyle Whittingham, Utah (Exceptional coach with great results in a conference that fights the Pac 10 and Big XII for recruiting scraps with some impressive wins.)
    4. Gary Pinkel, Mizzou (Another coach who has won with little talent, relying on his own abilities as a motivator and game manager to piece together a nice resume in a BCS Conference at a school with little winning tradition.)
    5. June Jones, SMU (Yeah, don't laugh. He's always been a master with QB's from the Atlanta Falcons to the Hawaii Whatevers. He took that team that didn't win a singe game the year before to 9 wins. He went 1-11 his first season at SMU. The next year he was 8-5 and took them to their first bowl game since 1984. No one has been able to win at SMU since the "death penalty" and he did it by... running the ball showing that he's not just a one-trick pony.

Good points. And yes, I did laugh when I got to June Jones. But I guess you do have a point. If he can get SMU back to national prominence (in the to 25) like during their Southwest Conference days then I guess I'd have to agree with him too.
