Yes it looks like this guy had to fill some space. First why is anyone talking about breaking curfew anymore. It have been discussed and based on history was tradition for that time of camp. I have been on teams, part of professional organizations (not sports) where similar activities were the rule and part of iniation into the group. All you Nannys whose panties are in a wad over it GET A GRIP and forget about it. If I were Les I would make my decision on what he believes happened. He doesn't have to wait till charges are filed or act if they are. If he believes JJ et al are telling the truth and are innocent of the possible assualt charges he should stick by them NO MATTER WHAT. If he comes to believe they lied or acted wrong he should take action whether or not the police do. Why? Because he is paid $3.7MM to manage the football operation. His responsibilty is to his players, LSU and his morals not to the police, or the crowd. He has to make these young men a team and help them grow up as in "in loc parentis". He has been instilling them with morals for the whole time they have been at LSU so he should have a clue as to what to believe and do. IMO there is too much shadyness about the "accusers" to act on their word History has NOT shown the LSU players to be violent or thuggish. Could they have started the fight possibly but to me unlikely. Is there any prior evedence that any have acted in such a ganster manner? I have seen none. Apparently some of the players fought and finished the issue but that is not nessarily assault or reason for comdemation. The only issue outside of his control is if the BRPD decide to make arrests right before the game. If that happens I don't see how they could play with that distraction and I wouldn't play them for that reason alone. If Les still believes them innocent I would sit them but not suspend. The question of their capacity to play while in a trial would them be reason to play or not. IF he believes them innocent he should stick by them and play them no matter what. If he thinks them guilty he should take action (sit, suspend or dismiss) no matter what. No matter what under his leadership we are a better team and WILL KICK DUCK *SS :geaux:
If the police arrest players right before the game, they will catch hell from the public. If they wait and arrest them after the game, they will catch hell from the public. If they decline to file charges, they will catch hell from the public. If they rush to judgment they will catch hell from the public. If they drag this out interminably they will catch hell from the public. They wish this would go away even more than LSU does.
Quote: red55 said.... That would go over with Mettenberger like a lead balloon. Let's say that JJ gets suspended and somehow wants to use his redshirt. I don't think Mettenberger has to worry.............. JJ's time will have passed; Mettenberger is that much better than JJ. JJ better worry that a 1-3 game suspension might result in Mettneberger winning the job outright. LSU has some good QB's on deck and one that I think is flying under the radar and could impress immediately, if he hits the field, let's say in a wildcat type formation, is Jerrad Randall. He is a sleeper, but he is ultra talented and a gamer.
Exactly correct. The only real out I can see for the BRPD (and the DA's office) is the conclude the investigation and announce they don't have enough information to make arrests because of conflicting statements and lack of credible independent witnesses. BRPD then announces that they're turning over the results of their investigation to the DA. The DA, who has the ultimate authority to prosecute or not, also decides to punt and says he will take the results of the investigation to the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury hears from witnesses, reviews the results of the investigation and decides who to indict, or not indict. That's the only win I can see in this case. BRPD will be able to say they conducted a thorough, professional investigation and turned those results over to the DA. The DA can say he allowed the Grand Jury to issue indictments or not. Both entities can say they did their jobs and, in effect, left it up to the people. On another interesting note, anybody arrested this coming Friday on a felony charge (that date seems to be floating out there for some reason) who bonds out of jail wouldn't have to be formally charged by the DA (which kicks off the whole trial process) until January 23, 2012 -- two weeks after the BCS National Championship Game.
