OK, I've had enough of the worrying and hand-wringing, especially over Florida. So let's look at the flip side of the question. What 3 things do you most look forward to, that you're the most excited about, in the 2009 season? I'll start it off:

    1. A much needed change in defensive philosophy. Since the end of the Saban era we've been following the Pelini soft-coverage, bend but don't break, approach. And this worked to a point, up until about the '07 South Carolina game. OC's have now been able to fully game plan for this defense, and it became abundantly clear last year that it's not effective anymore. On paper, Miles has really hit a home run with the staff he's put together. Chavis is known for being aggressive and attacking the ball carrier, and together with the rest of the defensive staff, I'm looking forward to that tough, hard-nosed attitude on D that we once had. Which leads me to...

    2. A tougher, focused team attitude. Poor D coaching and the leadership vacuum came to a head with the Bama game last year. After that several players phoned it in and morale was shot. The "swagger" of the D-line evaporated and couldn't get a push on even makeshift O-lines. And this all culminated in the low point at Arkansas.

Now, however, we're starting to see players step up into those leadership roles. Say what you will about Jefferson being unproven, but this kid acts and carries himself like a team leader. Guys like Lafell and Alem are primed to step up into those leadership roles as well. The coaching is there, the rest of those pieces just need to fall into place.

    3. Contributions from freshmen and overdue players. I usually don't buy into the idea of teams being due for something to happen, but in LSU's case, we are long overdue for a young playmaker to step up and be an impact player right off the bat for this team. That could certainly be Shepard, Loston or another freshman. It's time also for Toliver to fulfill the big potential that he's shown so far and step up to the plate. Needless to say, Jefferson could be something special this year too.

    1. Huge decline in pick 6's

    2. Less defensive ends 30 yards down field in pass coverage

    3. The emergence of Terrence Toliver

    1. Dual senior running backs with power, speed, and experience.

    2. Depth at quarterback.

    3. Gary Crowton. Last season was horrible and LSU still scored 31 points a game.

    1. Finding out if the problems on defense last year were the coaches or the players. We all suspected the coaches, and Les must have also. It would be exciting to see when we are up in the 4th quarter against a good team, we hold the lead.

    2. Quarterback play. JJ has shown us good glimpses of him. We haven't seen enough over an extended period to know he's the real deal. We've seen enough to think he could be the real deal. It will be exciting to see him develop as a week in and week out player.

    3. The true freshmen. Who will see the field, who will contribute. We have Shepard (QB), Davenport (DL), Loston (S), Ford (RB), and Randle (WR) who could step in and make a difference. It will be interesting to see if anyone makes it to the field early and often.

    1)A damn strong coaching staff...
2)A damn strong effort from players...
    3)JoJo Lafell

LSU maintains guys in some key positions that endured a painful season last year. I know they have been working harder than ever looking forward to making a statement this season.
    -
Chavis is a no nonsense coach who I believe will not allow complacency. I believe we will see much more discipline on the field...no more running around out of position like chickens with their heads cut off.
    -
I understand Julio Jones and AJ Green are both amazing players...especially considering their youth. However, I fully believe JoJo is the best WR in the SEC. Last season...with terrible QB play...he put up numbers better than JJ and every bit as good as AJ Green. Considering Green had the #1 pick throwing the ball to him, and JJ had a senior QB that...although not a great QB...he broke all the passing records at one of the great college football programs in history. I think it says a lot that Lafell was able to put up the numbers he did, and I firmly believe he will have a better year this year. I look for him to make some of these voters that decided he wasn't 1st team SEC wish they had their vote back.

1.) LSU Football in general. I enjoy all of the other sports, but I LOVE ME SOME LSU FOOTBALL. I don't know what's better than those games against UF and our division rivals.

2.) Chavis and our NEW, TOTALLY REVAMPED DEFENSE!
I expect our DB's and LB's to be MUCH improved from last year. I'm very anxious to see how Chavis (and the other new coaches) makes it all come together.

3.) How will Crowton use all our athletes? And How many points can we score? I imagine myself, just for one second, having all of these athletes available- Scott, JoJo, KW, Trindon, TT, Dickson, Shep and gang on the offensive side of the ball. Our offense should be DAMN STRONG!

4.) PAYBACK! This year we owe some @$$ whippins!

After the huge recruiting battle for Reuben Randle not much as been mentioned about him on this forum. If he can live up to his potential he could become the next Michael Clayton or Dwayne Bowe,
