I agree. And in 20 years we will be able to drill them with even less consequences, the technology is being developed already.

But try to look at the big picture and our best national interests. International oil reserves are running our fast. So why not preserve some of our domestic reserves for the day that oil goes over $300/barrel and gasoline will cost $12/gallon? Right now we import some oil because it is relatively cheap compared to 20-40 years from now. Why not deplete the oil from foreign reserves while it is still affordable?

When oil become unaffordable and countries can only get what they own or can steal . . . well, major wars are going to be fought over oil. There is no way we could even be involved in a fight in Asia or Indonesia without huge reserves in North America to get us there. Strategically it makes no sense to pump our national reserves dry just so we can maintain cheap gas prices to get self-serving politicians elected.

Works in theory, but Americans won't stand for anything much more $5 a gallon. Drill now while developing alternative fuel technology for the grim days you cite.

Of course If high gas prices will help to get Obama out of there I'll put up with them.

So, if I read you correctly, you're advocating pumping the rest of the world dry while hording our own reserves. Then when the days of "war for oil" are upon us, we'll have the oil needed to take the fight to our enemies.

But doesn't that also mean the fight will be here? If you're going to fight for oil, you fight where the oil is, right?

I'd prefer we not host a war. Drill, baby, drill. And step up efforts to make clean, renewable sources available and affordable. Then when the oil wars begin, they can be fought in Asia and Indonesia as you foresee. And we can get there with our nuclear fleet and kick arse with electric, unmanned weapons.

Not exactly. Russian and Saudi Arabia will have big reserves for some time. I'm saying don't pump OUR reserves dry and be at their mercy.

The Middle East, Asia, and Indonesia mostly.

We don't have a nuclear fleet, we have nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. We can't fight overseas without a long logistics trail that requires a lot of oil. Oil that we must be able to pump inNorth America. And no, airpower and seapower won;t help us in an oil fight. To control territory requires infantry and armor and they require much oil to get them there and sustain them.

I paid more taxes than GE did this past year. How is that even remotely right? Not everyone who is on medicare/medicaid, or receives assistance is a lazy bum who refuses to get off their ass. Those tax cuts wouldn't have even been noticed by the top 1% had they not been implemented, and what good did they do for the economy? Absolutely nothing.
