Minimally, for just a few months, were we net exporters... but never "energy independent". Oil is a global, fungible commodity. We will only achieve "energy independence" when production disruptions in the rest of the world, such as what's happening now in Ukraine, don't significantly impact our energy consumption and costs at home. To ever achieve that in the long run we must find alternatives to fossil fuels.
