The correct call should have been a stoppage of the clock and the refs deciding to put back a few seconds and basically allow LSU to line up and then run the clock when we were ready. Refs are trained to look for such shenanigans going on in that type of situation, and these refs blew it or decided to ignore it (which is worse).
I personally sacrifice a whole box of Popeye's after one loss, it was only good for a couple of games. It must be posters if we are to succeed:lol:
May be a little off topic but here is my two cents... I think someone (like the media) should highlight incidents like these, something like a top ten classless moves of the week a la Sports Centers top 10 plays of the week. This could include any showboating or classless taunting as mentioned in the other thread about taunting. This kind of garbage should not be coached and should not determine the outcome of the game. If your face was plastered on some media outlet for being on the top ten jack@ss of the week list, maybe you'd be less inclined to do it again. Class and sportsmanship seem to be in short supply in CFB lately.
Problem is those are often one and the same thing. Just watch highlights of any NFL game, Chad Johnson, er, I'm sorry "Ochocinco" end zone celebrations, etc. That's where they get this crap from in the first place.
I am not so concerned about things that 'draw attention to yourself'. If you can do backflips in the endzone after a touchdown, go for it. I think celebrating with your teammates after good plays and scores is a natural part of the game. It's the jawing in opponents faces or the extra shoves that a player gives to a guy when he's trying to get back up after being tackled or the intentional impedance of another player trying to get off the ground that should be stigmatized more.
:geaux: Yes, that was a crappy ending to the game. But like some other posters stated, had LSU played for four qtrs like they did the last one we wouldn't have this thread. How many interceptions were dropped? At least four? Also how many passes did our recievers drop? Several. Too many lost opportunities!:nope: Bottom line is that LSU made too many mistakes to win this game and as a result left themselves open to the bad ju ju that bit them in the a$$ at the end of the game. Penn State made more plays than LSU did plain and simple. The Tigers did not take care of business and it cost them a win. Maybe the bad taste this loss will leave in the Tigers mouths will help motivate them for a more successful 2010 season. :LSU231:
Agreed about jawing and talking trash after every play, but I still think a lot of problems stem from this. The headhunter hits make SportsCenter, solid fundamental technique doesn't. At the end of the day it's glorification of the individual over that of the team. I have no problem with kids celebrating touchdowns and big plays with their teammates. In fact I think the NCAA has gone overboard this year in cracking down on it. It's the outright taunting and chest-thumping after doing things that you're supposed to do in the first place, and hot-shotting to get your face on ESPN that get to me.
You basically said its ok to cheat. Remember that time Turley grabbed the Giant's helmet off by his facemask because of what he was doing to Brooks? That reminded me of it. Hitt shouldn't have done it, but there shoulda been 2 flags.
Cheating happens all the time. That's what penalties are called for; a sanction against a player or team for breaking the rules. Sometimes I'd rather a player "cheat" and take the penalty. Delay of game on the PSU player should have been called. Just the same way the penalty was called on Hitt for "cheating" as you put it. Unfortunately for LSU, the refs missed the first call, got the second one. As I recall, Turley got flagged and Robinson didn't in the instance you brought up. It's always the retaliator that gets caught. I'm stall glad Turley cheated and took up for his QB. Even though he turned out to suck later, it was still his teammate. BTW, it was the Jets not the Giants. :yelwink2:
Aha, 'twas the Jets. Its just my opinion that bragging about it makes it classless and shouldn't be regarded as a great play. I also don't think that shyt should be coached. And yeah, Turley got flagged and fined, and the call on Hitt wasn't a bad one. Like I said, shoulda been 2.
