Russell Shepard recruited hard for us last year and I think it helped with Loston and others. Are any of the 2010 commitments doing the same thing now? :geaux::geaux::geaux::geaux:
:geaux: Haven't really seen/heard/read about any of the current commits taking on the role of recruiter like Shep did last year. While some of them may be talking up LSU some, most of the things I read about this years recruits have them basically saying they don't talk to each other about recruiting much or try to actively influence other recruits when they meet up at games, etc. Whether that's true or not, who knows. In any case, somebody would really have their work cut out for them to even get close to the effort Shep put in regarding last years class. Sometimes it seemed he was working just as hard as the staff was in recruiting. Seems he was pretty unique in this regard, IMO. :LSU231:
Did Shep stop recruiting for LSU this year? I doubt it. He's made friends with guys like Matt Barkley and Trent Richardson, so I imagine he is making friends with guys that LSU is recruiting/having come visit LSU as well. "I’m good friends with (USC starting quarterback) Matt Barkley and we talk a lot, as well as (Alabama running back) Trent Richardson." http://www.heyfightingtigers.com/?p=529
Here is recent news of LSU commitment Jeremy Hill (2011) recruiting for LSU: “While I was there I talked to Jeremy Hill,” Hilliard added. “I heard he had committed and I’m glad he did that. He was telling me to go to LSU with him and we could be like Keiland Williams and Charles Scott. He wanted me to go there with him so we could be that kind of combo too. He had me thinking about it and it sounded like a good idea.” TigerRag - RECRUITING: Hilliard Nearing a Decision
Shep is still helping out but we really do not have any very highly rated guys from LA this year committed or Texas in Shep's case who are actively tied to many prospects. If someone like Lache or Reed were already committed they would likely be in a Shep role. BTW, is Shep limited in his role in recruiting this year since he is now on the team? I assume he can't just go out and call recruits out of the blue like he did last year. Would have to have some sort of prior relationship?
