yep. look for his name to reappear in a couple of season at another big-time program. jt wise, jp padron, jason ogata... he'll be one of those. it's a shame because we're so thin behind the plate. but it's not like the kid didn't have his chances.
JayB, how'd you like to have the talent and opportunity this kid had?? Do you think you or I would make the same irresponsible decisions this kid probably did? Where do you think he'll start off in the minors compared to where he would have started off had he shown more maturity...Bartlesville??
my reference to those players above was to point out that he'll probably transfer to another D1 school, sit out, and emerge as a top player like jason ogata did (transferred to oregon state when they won two back-to-back titles.) JP padron (transferred to rice, was their starting 1B last season,) plus a few others i can't really think of right now. he's only a freshman, so he could still get two solid years somewhere else. if it were me, and i had the opportunity and talent he does... well, i'd study baseball 365 days a year and probably be the best catcher in the nation. or at least i'd try like hell to be. dude was pretty good out of high school. to be fair though, his heart probably isn't in baseball as much as some of the other guys on the team. obviously it was something to that effect since mainieri usually recruits good kids.
I think you're right when you said his heart wasn't in it. I don't know what he did, but The team rules may have been related to "partying" in one form or another. In my personal experience with "partying" too much (pretty vast experience) when it became excessive...in retrospect...something fundamental was wrong with my life. That's when perspective gets screwed up and I screwed up...probably like Wes. I hope he straightens his life out. There's a lot of things more important in life than both sports and partying. I just hate to see talent squandered. It happens to all of us in one way or another...sooner or later.
This had to be some really stupid screw ups by Luquette. Rarely do you hear, see or read a head coach come out and address a player being dismissed from a team. Mainieri clearly stated that it was multiple violations and that he gave him every opportunity to correct his behavior and just couldn't do it. Shame because everything I've heard about the kid is that he has some big time talent.
