You were small, but you were slow. I was invited to be a walk-on with the swim team, but nagging shoulder injuries slowed me down a lot. My times remained decent enough to be on the team, but the 2 daily 9,000 yard workouts were more than my shoulders could handle. I knew that my 5'6 frame would not allow me to be a truly elite level guy, so I hung up the speedo. The good news with that was I was able to stop shaving my legs and chest. My roommate tried out for the baseball team in 2000, and made it to the last round of cuts, but they ended up not keeping any walkons.
i had decent speed. but at 5'8" you gotta have trindon holliday type speed. needless to say, i didn't have them kinda wheels.
I was friends with a number of players and walk-ons at the time. Considering their size relative to mine, I had the good sense to just go to Murphy's for .25 beer instead.
