Or maybe at another university...did you ever suit up or play? Back in the day (I'm quite old) I even thought of walking on at LSU since it is pretty close to home for me. This was in the sixties..... the days of Casanova and friends....however, I was prevented from doing so due to injuries.............. I watched them play and decided very quickly that THESE SONS OF BITCHES WILL HURT ME BAD......So much for my gamedays at TS. I think Mr. Casanova and friends were the originators of the "No Fear" phrase we see so often today.
I had invites to walk on at both Nicholls and SLU, but I decided college football was contrary to my beliefs.....I don't believe in bleeding on Saturdays.
Not to mention "pocket presence, motor, running downhill, and all those other terms that have little meaning but are constantly referred to by the film analysts who post on sports websites.
Yeah but you sure can put a hit on a foam ice chest.. I've seen you do it.. lol That's gotta count for something.
I got to walk on the field - or maybe it would be better to say I marched on the field. Sure was deep and plush. Tiger Band was fun - and made me feel more involved with the game. But football? Heck, I hear you can get hurt doing that!
I thought about it back in the leather helmet days. Actually it was 1965. I worked out (non pads) with some of the recruits and knew I was in deep sh*t when I couldn't outrun a couple of the recruited linebackers. And I only weighed 165 pounds. Common sense prevailed and I became a spectator.
I tried out for baseball in '02. I had a speech class with Jon Zeringue and he talked me into it. I went out for catcher and Matt Liuzza had the job pretty locked up at that point so I really didn't expect much. I just missed playing and figured it couldn't hurt. They did tell me they were impressed with the speed of my throw down to 2nd though. I remember they made me do it 3 times, one of the pitches was in the dirt and all three of them were beautifully perfect tag throws.
