And this is why it frustrates the hell out of me to see people (mostly not on this board) crying over the loss, about our players, and about our coaching. We played one hell of a game last night. This might not be an elite team, but I'll put them up against any other in college football and like their chances.
Absolutely. We've had some embarrassing wins this years, but our losses have not been. That's the reason I don't think we'll fall apart like we did last year after the Bama game. The truth is that the wheels had come off long before that game last year, and we played WAY over our heads during that one. This year, we still have a lot to play for, and in fact, looking at the lastes BCS polls, all it would take is a stumble by UF or Bama to possibly put us in a BCS bowl. We have PLENTY to play for, including a top-10 finish for the year--after finishing outside the top 25 last year. Our defense is back on track this year, whereas it was totally derailed early on last season. JJ's injury concerns me, but it should be a blessing that La Tech is coming up this week.
>cough< Ridley >cough< >cough< Williams >cough< >cough< Shepard >cough< I may have the best cold ever.
This is what we have returning from a (likely) 10-2 bowl team for next season: The past two years were lean years of suffering for LSU because of a few knuckleheads who we were counting on as well as the promotion of a fantastic defensive coordinator. We saw the defense gain footing under Chavis this year about four games into the season. Next year will only improve with most of the defense returning. Those who are leaving will be replaced by at worst, equally talented players. The O-Line will lose one player. Granted that player is arguably the best player, but there is an equally talented player waiting in the wings to replace him. Just like Ciron stepped in for Whitworth, I expect Faulk to step right in for Ciron. With an offseason of hitting the weights, I am hoping that the O-Line returns better equipped to handle the massive SEC DTs that shoved them around this year. RB is still stacked, WR is still stacked and Jefferson will only improve upon the strides he made this year. The rest of the SEC is on notice; Fun-time is over.
THIS! perhaps delusional, but maybe they either (a) don't really understand because they are Tiger Football only and just don't really have a grasp on the big college football picture OR (b) think with and speak from their emotional Tiger loving hearts instead of their heads. just a thought.
10-2 is frustrating to you? I'd be freaking out in joy if we end up finishing 10-2... and that is any year. Even our 2007 National Championship team finished the regular season 10-2 before they went to the SEC Championship. Even God Saban only finished 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, 13-1, and 9-3 at LSU.
Good post, Berge. I was only worried a little about a repeat of last year because the character of this team is 100% better and headed 180 degrees in the opposite direction than last year. Check out this article that says the same thing: LSU shows class after loss to Alabama | LSU Tigers Central - - NOLA.com I can't tell you how much more proud I am of the team this year. :tigereye:
We return a lot of players next year, but here is what we lose: WR Brandon Lafell TE Richard Dickson LT Ciron Black RG Lyle Hitt RB Charles Scott RB Keilland Williams RB Trindon Holliday DE Rahim Alem DT Charles Alexander DT Al Woods LB Harry Coleman LB Perry Riley LB Jacob Cutrera DB Chris Hawkins DB Danny McCray IMO, Lafell and the 3 LB will be the players we miss the most next year. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
At least we keep Peterson and Chad Superman Jones. Got Ridley and Ford. Jefferson and Shep. And I'm proud of D'Angelo Peterson. The future's so bright... I gotta wear shades :thumb:
