Right. I'll take "more of the same" from Chavis any damn day because he continually puts a top-notch product out on the field. More of the same...what an utter joke.
“D.J. gives our defense a little bit of that calming effect,” Chavis said. I don't want someone to give our defense a calming effect. I want a defense that crushes its enemies, to drive them from their homes, and hear the lamentations of their women.
And in their three losses last year LSU gave up almost 5 yards per carry. Welter makes a lot of tackles but they always seem to be chase-downs ten yards down field. He is not a "filler" LB.
Like I said, I'll trust Chief to put the best players on the field. His record is the proof. You might want to check SEC stats again, most defenses in the SEC gave up almost 5 ypc. Four SEC teams gave up over 5 ypc.
And last year was a "down year" for our defense. That's very likely the worst defense you'll ever see from Chavis, and it came on the heels of losing nearly the entire unit to the NFL. Soak it up, Chavis haters. Your days in the sun are numbered.
Bring back Lou Tepper and Thomas Dunson! Or maybe that defense a few years ago led by the Co-Coordinators.
A little more on Chief....... John Chavis, DC, LSU At 57 years old, Chavis' window to be a head coach somewhere might not be open too much longer. But if you're Chavis, what's wrong with being one of the most respected defensive coordinators in the game? He won the Broyles Award in 2011 as the nation's top assistant coach, and has brought the same consistently-tough defenses to LSU that he was once known for at Tennessee. Three straight Chavis defenses ranked among the nation's best from 2010-2012. And despite some critical talent that departed early for the NFL, last year's LSU defense ranked No. 15. http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap2000000361609
I find it hard to believe we can't find a better MLB than Welter, but criticizing the job Chavis has done as DC is insane! Not trying to bash him, but Welter just doesn't seem to have the athleticism to be a big time run stopper. Too many of his tackles are made down field. That being said maybe the added 10 pounds will help him.
