I still feel as though we, as fans, could have done more. However, it does go as Red indicated. Doesn't mean we have to be happy satisfied with our performance as fans though. You have to play the game for 60 minutes to win. As fans, we can apply the same logic by contributing for an entire game too. We did cause a false start and general confusion on their first series. That definitely would have helped if we maintained our intensity throughout the game.
I can see that but I swear they would break huddle and the exact moment Jefferson turned his head to the sideline the boos started. I know no of us are getting paid money to second guess the people that are but the film does not lie.
The crowd was verbally communicating with the offense a lot, especially when it came to the play clock and the penalties. I don't remember the crowd booing the offense or decision making at any point. You know, I had a blast yesterday with some great friends and a great time in the game itself. This is one I'll never forget- a huge game on a huge stage. Sure, I would have loved to see the offense CAPITALIZE on that which the defense gave them- a brilliant performance, if you ask me- and put at least one touchdown on the board. But we were playing the best defense in the country, for all intents and purposes, and it really came down to us not having an experienced quarterback and them having an experienced quarterback. Going forward, I don't know what to expect from the team, but I am excited to see what the next couple of seasons hold for us. The talent level is high, and there are a few good coaches mixed in with some who are just having a rough time right now. I think the offense needs to find an IDENTITY (pretty sure I've said this on the forum before), because right now we're just trying TOO MANY THINGS and not focusing on execution. Jefferson needs to be coached better, no two ways about it. RS needs to play. Defense was amazing, can't say it enough. I don't think any Florida fan should think anything other than they won a game against a quality opponent in a hostile stadium. I respect them and have this whole season, and I would hope they would respect us too. That being said- Riley Cooper is a cheater. /sourgrapes
Not only that, but they are in a stance that is very unnatural. They don't get a hand down on the ground. They stay up in an awkward stance. Because of it, they can't get leverage. You look at the defenders in a down stance and they get under our offensive linemen and get the leverage.
I agree, but the game plan and play calling also sucked big time. Not sure any Qb would have been successful with the game called last night from the offensive staff. I also agree with your overall assessment of the game. However I think the lack of anything resembling a pass rush from our front 4 forces them more to the bend but don't break D. Even when we bring a blitz the rush is very slow getting there. I want to see what Chavis does once he gets a legitimate DL going. Sheppard, can anyone give a valid reason he wasn't redshirted? It isn't because he is going to be part of the offense so don't even try that one. The OL is really really bad, the WR's aren't doing a good job of getting open and our QB play has been inept to say the least. That being said I think I'm more disappointed in the offensive coaching staff than the players. The O coaches have done absolutely nothing to help this struggling offense. It's hard to put your finger on one thing that you could fix to make this offense work. It looks totally dysfunctional and unrepairable. This comes as a shock seeing how the offense performed the last few years. The offense was even much better last year with no QB. I think the D will be just fine once Chavis gets his guys, just look for a lot of bend but don't break for the remainder of the season. The offense however needs to start over from scratch. The coaching staff on that side of the ball really needs to have a come to Jesus meeting and do a complete overhaul. It's not like anything they try could make it any worse.
When JJ looked confused, you could tell the crowd was not happy. Or as one poster said the deer in the headlights look! Maybe this position is just too much for him to grasp. Maybe the coaches realize that and are trying to simplify it in order to help. I don't know but, they sure better get it together before we face an opponent like Bama. The Gators were good, don't get me wrong but they didn't impress me as much. Tebow & Meyer know it that's why they put him in the game, no Tebow, no win. Reason he carries the team, as they say. I was afraid the crowd would lose their voices after the start of the game. Then when I saw the Gators stomp on our :tigereye:, I thought this would be enough to fuel the fire...guess we just didn't have enough kindling!
I think Les promised him that he would not be redshirted. Also, it makes little sense sometimes to redshirt players that are likely to leave early for the NFL, it just costs us a year of their time here that we won't get back. I don't understand why he hasn't been lined up at running back more.
Like I said: Can't really disagree with any of that. Whenever there is pressure, it is always really late. The interior of the defensive line is lacking tremendously right now. The rest of your post, concerning the offense, was unfortunately VERY accurate. Just as I complained earlier about changed not being made until halftime, we also see another trend here. Changes with the team are not made until late in the season, if at all. THIS HAS TO STOP! Changes and adjustments need to be made NOW. There are obvious issues that need to be resolved.
I don't think we are getting less plays because of the no huddle, we get less plays because of the inept offense and the 3 and outs. Even if we did get 6-9 more plays that would just be 2-3 more 3 and outs. This is not a true no huddle offense where the play ends and the team lines up on the ball and runs another play. This version of the no huddle gives our offense no advantage what so ever. The play calling this season is vastly different from what worked for us the past two seasons under Crowton. There is a lot of debate over who is really calling the plays, but it doesn't matter. They just need to go back to what has proven to work in the past couple of years and scrap this new look offense altogether.
