Motel 6 may have been a better choice if these guys have to pay the tab. South Carolina football players under investigation by the NCAA moved out of a hotel Thursday where it's alleged they received deeply discounted rates or free stays. (Mike Zarrilli, Getty Images) Ol’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier has himself a good ol’ fashioned mess on his hands at South Carolina. According to The State, South Carolina football players under investigation by the NCAA for staying at the Whitney Hotel in Columbia for discounted rates (or free of charge) moved out Thursday night at the request of university officials. Spurrier told The State he “didn’t know all of the arrangements”. From the report: “But all of our guys are going to pay their bill and hopefully go live somewhere else,” Spurrier said. “That’s what we hope happens — that they pay their bills up and go live somewhere else. That’s about all I can say about it.” Spurrier would not say specifically whether players had gone a period of time without paying rent. “I can’t go into all that,” Spurrier said. “They’re going to pay their bills and move out is what we have suggested for them to do.” This is a story worth following. For Spurrier’s sake, let’s hope the NCAA doesn’t take a full accounting of all the complementary shampoos and soaps that were used during the Gamecocks’ stay. If the players in question come to practice tomorrow dressed as KISS impersonators, we’ll know they stayed tonight at Holiday Inn Express. That could be more troubling for Spurrier.
