My sentiments exactly. Someone in the PAC-10 needs to step up again this year and send USC packing. The question is, given how weak the PAC-10 looks, is anyone capable of doing it? :geauxtige
Stanford shouldn't have been able to do it last year. Things like this happen. Arkansas and Kentucky shouldn't have beaten us last year, either. Now, perhaps the planets are properly aligned this year, and we won't see a season like our previous one (though it was extremely entertaining), but USC was left out of the BCSNCG in '03 for the exact reason they could be left out AGAIN. And, yes, the media outcry would be substantial--and there would probably be split champions again--because what Big 10 champ would beat USC in the Rose Bowl? I don't think the SEC champ (if undefeated) would be left out. If the SEC champ is not undefeated, that's just the way it'll be, with no one to blame but themselves. FWIW, I feel good about LSU getting in if we were undefeated (just dreaming here, guys)--there is no way we wouldn't get to defend our title.
I would think that the media would want to see USC v. the SEC this year. Think of the championship games that have happened this decade with our conference winning 3 MNCs. The one game that we haven't seen yet is LSU or FU v. the condoms. I so want that game, and I gotta believe that many fans in America, minus the Okies of course, want to see that game as well.
You would think so. But I've noticed a big media push for Oklahoma/USC and by that I mean if you listen to a lot of the college football panels that come on during a football weekend (ABC, CBS, ESPN) their "favorites" to play for title is USC/Oklahoma. I've heard ONE vote for an SEC team and that is Herbstreit and his pick of Florida. I don't think I've even heard Georgia's name mentioned since they've dropped to #3. It would be very fun to watch if an undefeated Oklahoma and an undefeated Florida sat there at the end of the year waiting to see which one would get the call.
Let's face it, USC and OU are the most likely BCSCG participants, b/c they are the teams most likely to go unbeaten. At this point in the season, that's all BCSCG prognostication is about. Everybody wants a no controversy matchup of unbeatens, and that wouldn't likely include an SEC team. Give it time. Once the SEC has a clear favorite, that team will firmly be in the discussion.
