Here is the problem as I understand it. We need the income from 8 home games to make the budget. That leaves four away games which are now all SEC games for us. Almost any major opponent will require a home and home agreement, which would cost us a home game in one of those years. Also, based on what we did to Virginia Tech, WVU and Oregon the last couple of years not many teams are going to be lining up to play us and possibly being out of the BCS championship picture almost before their season gets started. If you think back, Oregon was not on our schedule originally last year. ABC set that game up (as they did this year with Alabama and Michigan) and there was some substitutions made on the schedules of the teams Oregon and LSU were originally scheduled to play. I don't think we will be seeing anything close to our last year's OOC again.
You guys serious? Last year was great been great but traditionally we host one "BCS team" and two or three gimme's. Just taking a peak back to 2005: '05 We had N. Texas and Appy St. and Arizona St. '06 we had U La La, Tulane, Fresno St. and Arizona '07 Virginia Tech helped put us in the big game. We also had Tulane and La Tech '08 Appy St. N. Texas, Tulane and Troy St. '09 Opened with Washington but the other OOC games were U La La, Tulane, and La. Tech. I agree with most of what you're saying but what's embolded. Teams RELISH the chance for a shot at National Contenders. A win for Michigan today, for example, would vault them into immediate legitimacy. For a team like Bowling Green, TODAY IS their National Championship Game. You serious? Last year was great been great but traditionally we host one "BCS team" and two or three gimme's. Thanks for that explanation. I had not thought of it in terms of budget. I just usually see these as dangerous games. Nothing to gain but tons to lose. I am a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University (Class of -81), now ULM. Ask Bama how they feel about playing those kind of games. Remember a few years back when they "rolled tide". That was great beating them on the "hallowed ground" of bryant denny stadium in tuscaloosa (sorry don't feel like capitalizing any of that). Of course LSU has had some close calls in the past with smaller, less caliber teams. I still think one day the BCS formula is going to more heavily penalize weak out of conference schedules and we don't want or need that. Anyway, Geaux Tigers.....Whup up on the mean green.
I have ZERO problem playing Tulane. I put that one in the rivalry category and that is okay. I am also okay with a school like Arizona. There are just so many more respectable teams to play.
Fine but then don't complain about weak OOC games. Arizona is certainly a great OOC game but if you really meant what you said about "just so many more respectable teams to play" you're either: A/ A kid B/ A troll C/ An idiot D/ All of the above
where the heck did that response come from? I'm certainly not A) a kid (56 yrs old), B) not a troll (i'm a lifetime tiger fan and a member of this forum), and C) certainly do not consider myself an idiot. I was referencing the fact that there are many more respectable (maybe I should have said more competitive) teams to play than N. Texas, Towson, Idaho. Geez what tripped your trigger jackass.
I'm not sure why people divide the schedule into two different schedules. I like to look at the entire schedule and just it on it's merits. Weak OOC schedule or not, LSU will end up playing a lot of ranked teams.
Does it really matter? If I was LSU I'd do the exact same thing. Our conference is the powerhouse right now. Nothing else is needed. Risk nothing more than you have too.
We will survive, I have no problem with it although I would prefer playing at least 1 tough OOC team. Maybe no one wants to play us at home? Have you seen Les OOC record lately?
