Why do you care. Who determines what is outrageous with private funds. $1 million was viewed the same way in 2003 but it got us our first NC in 50 years. It's the entertainment business. Last year Alabama had $108 million in revenue and $45.7 straight profit due to their football coach. Successful ceos earn their keep or they get replaced. Same with coaches. If a teacher wants a higher salary they can change professions.
If this was a company, which it really is, people like Nick Saban and Urban Meyer would make 30-35mm/yr. They're vastly underpaid for what they do for an athletic department, the university, and the community. Just because an accounting professor hated his job at KPMG and left to teach doesnt mean he deserves to retire with tenure at the same price his peers at a Big 4 eventually will.

Just his words are enough to fuck something up. That’s what leadership today doesn’t realize. Words have power when they come from powerful people.
only a very few can do what nick can do. lots of people can teach....then they get tenure and get paid but not as much teaching actually goes on
