I am watching it again right now. Most of the time he is holding the ball it is because he is running for his life. However there has been two time i thought he could get rid of it sooner.
We are not Florida.....they have a senior QB that one the heisman, and return their entire defense. However, we are very talented, and by the time we play them, we may be as good. Florida played two AWFUL teams, at HOME, in good weather. Washington and Vandy are WAY better than their two cupcakes. If you want to say we are not good in an area, I understand. However, saying we should put up Florida numbers is just silly considering how different our competition has been. We are a good team that has a chance to be really good. No one knows for sure if it will happen or not. Expectations.................that is the problem.
Agree with you, but the weather was not good for the Troy game today, lots of rain early in that one. Regardless, your point stands. Florida is Florida, we are LSU, why does anyone care how many points we put up when we only give up 7? (I'm gonna chalk the safety up as a fluke and hope we never see it again) Can we just enjoy the fact that we played much better on defense, while also moving the chains reasonably well on offense? There is still a lot of work to be done but there are a ton of bright spots that people are over looking. The playcalling for instance was a lot more creative, and even though they didn't always work we were at least putting players in different positions to make plays, forcing our future opponents' DCs to account for certain wrinkles or packages. I like the idea of getting LaFell the ball on the edge via the option pitch for instance. Didn't work too well against Vandy but it was still nice to see us getting our athletes the ball in different ways. See the way Russell Shepard was used as another example of more innovative playcalling this time around. Sure, the O-Line and interior running game needs to get a whole lot better, and we need to get become more of a threat in the vertical passing game, but don't let that overshadow the very solid foundation this team has laid. Our young QB is playing mistake free football and our defense already looks better from week 1 to week 2. Still a lot to improve upon but it's not all bad either.
positives: 1) Defense gave up only around 200 yards and only 7 points 2) Kieland Williams ran extremely well 3) RJ Jackson exploded today, was impressive 4) Only 88 yards passing, take for granted that vandy is horrible at passing 5) Sheppard, Randle, and Downs got more game experience. 6) No interceptions 7) WE FREAKING WON, vandy is an SEC team and we are 2-0 (1-0) Negatives: 1) O line not getting push as much 2) JJ holding on for too long 3) Hardly any pass rush 4)Some struggling with dual threat QBs Locker last week and Smith this week. 5) This soft zone crap needs to stop 6) WR blocking needs to get better. 7) We are predicatable.. In general, the game was pretty good defensively, only gave up 200 yards and 7 points. Offense is miss firing and we need to be consistent. People let go of the panic button. Save it for our real test agaisnt georgia. Enjoy the victory. We're two and 0
You didn't see Peterson because Vandy ran and threw everything away from number 7. They feared him, the commentator was right when he said when you dont hear a cornerback's name, its a good thing. My biggest dissapointment in this game was the possibility of losing Richard Murphy. It was wet, i like the 5 wide, Jefferson is young but learning. Let me ask you guys this, do you not feel safe with Jordan Jefferson? He has thrown 1 career pick and it was off a deflection last year against ole miss. He threw one tonight but if Dickson doesnt get held that ball doesnt get picked, the flag was thrown, so it didn't count. He has a way to go, and he isnt there yet but the future is bright. He hasn't lost a game for us. Keiland kicked ass, RJ Jackson and Charles Scott were good tonight. The receivers were good, Dickson played good. The O line struggled in pass protection. Defense played great in the 2nd half, with the exception of the 1 drive Taylor made the interception on. Good game considering the elements, we can only get better. Shep looked very elusive. Geaux Tigers!!
Jefferson is steady so far, but he must develop a downfield passing game to compete in the SEC. He overthrew a wide-open receiver and cost us a TD. He had five receivers a lot last night, but managed very few completions over the middle. He has to work the whole field.
True, but let's add that this was his 1st TS start and his 4th overall and he's 19 and WILL get a lot better.
