Defensive line is very inconsistent Rahim Alem is very inconsistent We only have one conerback, Peterson We have a lot of 2 star line backers Keep Danny McCray off the field
I disagree. I thought it was the ZOne and the players not picking up on it. they did much better in Man... SO blame coaching....
I agree. Zone is horrible and doesn't play to the strengths of this team. Add to the fact that the defense was on the field all night because the offensive play calling was horrible and couldn't sustain a drive and you have the makings of a very tired defense.
Is it just me, or does Chavis look like a bump on a log? No fire or anything, much like the defense through the majority of the game. No run defense. (158 yds allowed) No pass defense, really. (320 yds allowed) Heinous tackling. (Thanks, Chad) Blocking was surprisingly and consistently bad. Charles Scott looks like he's lost some power. Very little QB pressure. (Did we get any sacks?) And this was against UDub. WTF
I felt on O and D it was plays to get a W rather than play to destroy like UW had.. I wish our coaches seemed excited when they were on the field. It really upsets me to see them flat and allow our team to play like that and not get in their ass..
First game under a new defensive coordinator. As Okie pointed out by digging up a thread from 2005, Pelini's first stint was rough indeed, giving up OVER 500 yards of offense. And, as has been stated many many many times, THIS UDub team is obviously not last year's UDub team. Did you see the intensity they played with? As for our players- jet lag was obviously a factor.
There is unquestionably a learning curve for a new defensive scheme that only game experience can teach. By the Georgia game we should have most of it ironed out. The fundamentals seemed to be there, I'm optimistic that the defense will be solid.
You must have been watching a different game. The tackling, mismatches, and players being caught out of position happened nearly all game long.
Not to mention that there was NO outside containment. Every time Locker would escape the inside rush he was free to roll out and run for the first down.
