I tend to agree. Bama needed two top-5 recruiting classes and two years to get them ready to play in order to mount The Big Comeback. 2009 is the year to deliver some results.
I'm not sure I know what you mean "The Big Comeback" but I've always said that if we were able to be pretty competitive under the circumstances we've been under for a while now, then when we get out from under those circumstances and start putting quality players, depth of quality players and a good coaching staff on the field, we should be able to be a contender for the SEC year in and year out. I don't think Bama getting back to being a force in the SEC is as a monumental task as many are trying to make it out to be. It won't be easy but it's far, far from impossible.
Another great class by CLM and staff! The next few years will continue to bring exciting Championship football to LSU. :milesmic::crystal::crystal::crystal::milesmic:
Worth noting that Florida State has landed big classes 4 out of the last 5 years and has struggled. Miami is in a similar place. And if you look at USC's recruiting prowess, you have to wonder how any other team in the country had a prayer... I'm excited, too. But guardedly so.
FSU has had talent, it's just the development and coaching needed (esp Jeff Bowden) couldn't do anything with that talent on the offensive side of the ball. They go out and get a decent OC and now it appears the FSU defense is going to crap.
In regards to Fla St and Miami look no further than coaching staff. The talent brought in there was definitely real good but it goes to show you that develop is just as important. I think the kind of "ship being run" at these two programs aren't very strong. There's no excuse for these two teams not to be in contention for the BCS game every year. Their school is located smack dab in the middle of the hottest recruiting bed in the country. "Talent" ain't the problem. Coaching is.
Well, that was kind of my point. Let's see what Bama and LSU can do with these folks. It's not ALWAYS a pure coaching failure, though. Sometimes, 5 star guys are knuckleheads that won't be reached or can't qualify. Coaches take chances on guys like this - sometimes the gamble doesn't work. We've all had guys like that in recent years. One or two - regardless of the coaching staff - can really drag a program down for awhile. Aaaanyway - talent + desire to succeed + coaching + luck = realized potential.
You're completely right Developing Players is a big key to the success of programs and apparently the position coaches might not be doing their job with all the talent they get. Texas is another school that comes to mind
Being able to beat LSU or Auburn again after six years, contending for the West, and taking a team to the SECCG. That would be The Big Comeback.
Bamabuzzard probably wasn’t around in ’12 when you were telling everyone the British would win. Those Bama boys are unaccustomed to you privateer antics. How’s Gen. Jackson? ldskule:
