Those outside looking in always think they know what's best. Mike is well taken care of. https://www.lsu.edu/mikethetiger/facts.php
A few years back PETA was planning to protest the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo because hooks are cruel to fish. They planned to block the only highway in and out of the island. They called it off when some local fishermen said they were going to meet them with ax handles.
Tigers in captivity are a reality. I don't think anyone has the right to own something as precious and as exotic as a wild tiger. That said, if tigers in captivity are a reality, then LSU is one of the best places to have one. We do an excellent job meeting the needs of our tigers.
old zoos were pretty awful to ungodly horrible,.. not now, I think it's a lucky animal that ends up in a modern zoo.
I agree. But, there's some part of me that thinks it is sad to see a tiger in captivity, be it the best enclosure the world has to offer or not. It's unnatural but a fact of reality nonetheless.
Please oh please, let them pull some shit. Gonna have a bunch of pissed of Cajuns ten deep surrounding the whole damn enclosure.
I am certainly no expert on this subject and stand to be corrected. My understanding is LSU always picks a cat that is already captive and not subject to being returned to the wild. However, it is also my understandng that cats are pretty social and should not be held in isolation (just one). On the other hand, is it possible that Mike has always been isolated and would not respond well to companionship? I don't know, Just asking.
