I've been reading through the posts on Jai Eugene... his choice of Michigan... his kid... 1500 miles, etc. Refresher class from a few years ago: Chris Perry is recruited out of NC to Michigan. After a year, he's not happy and wants to transfer. Irene Perry, his mom, comes to see Lloyd Carr. Irene Perry becomes owner and President of a new magazine, called Ann Arbor Magazine. She moves to Ann Arbor. Chris finishes school. After graduation, Irene Perry sells her business and moves home. Jai Eugene and his family will be just fine. Do a google search on Ms. Perry and you will find all the documentation you need... college football at its finest.
Hawker, I'm sure you have seen more of Max Martin (Backup to Hart) than I...He is transfering to Bama. What is the deal on this guy? How's he play?
The Irene Perry story is most interesting because she didn't get the job when Chris verballed, she got it after Chris wanted to transfer. I don't know much... but I also own a business. I "work" with my bank on damn near a daily basis. The odds of me going to another state, walking into a bank, and getting immediate financing to start some unproven business.... well, my chances would be less than slim, far less, beyond nil.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's nothing NCAA-wise illegal with getting a recruit's parent a job, right?
I don't know the rules, but I'm pretty sure they exist. When Kevin Garnett "suddenly" left Greenville, South Carolina to finish high school in Chicago "because his mom got a new job"... that was about as fishy as this. And, in that instance, it was discovered Nike was behind it all and Garnett was "out" with the NCAA. My guess is it falls under booster involvement... but it's just a guess.
Sucks doesn't it? A la Tim Tebow! At least your guy wasn't wearing an LSU hat walking off the field after the state championship game--then named UM.
Wow...that story about Michigan and Perry is pretty ugly. I dont know if its legal or not but it shouldnt be. You might as well be buying the player.
I don't really think he was ever an LSU lock. He was supposedly considering Miami just as much as LSU. But, in the end, he just chose another school, no big deal. Every time LSU loses a big recruit someone thinks that other school is up to something. I don't get it. When guys from across the country come to LSU no one here wonders if we're up to something fishy.
