Yeh they were sooo good that they should've been beat in game 1 by the 3 maybe 4 LSU homeruns that got lost in the stratosphere, instead that black hole stadium saved their asses. Nice try though.
You're missing the point entirely. It's not about LSU winning or losing in the CWS. It's about the style of baseball being played. I don't believe UCLA is the best team in the nation. I believe their gnat ball style that the NCAA has turned the game into is perfect for that park. I don't think they win if those games were at Rosenblatt. Bunting has it's place in baseball, but not every single time the lead off runner gets to first. That's not REAL baseball, IMO. Just like baseball games with football scores in the gorilla ball days.
Ed no one disputes the fact. The discussion is whether the new ball park coupled with the new bat and ball configuration really are the best to determine the national champion and have that reflect which team is best. Hats of to UCLA, but they won by the fact their strengths were multiplied by the above and their deficiencies were masked by the same. I believe in just about any other ball park UCLA would have been out well before the finals. Do you really want a team that average was below the Mendoza line to be crowned champion? The other point being made is that the small ball game as played by UCLA goes against the grain of what has made college ball popular in the last 20 years. I'm sure local attendance will continue strong for the CWS but TV will suffer as will popularity of the game in the regular season if all teams adopt the same philosophy. There is a big difference between denying facts and expressing opinion on whether or not the conditions are best for the future of the game.
Two years ago there were 11 home runs during the series, last year there were 10. This year there were 3 home runs. Same park, same bat, same ball. Attendance and television ratings increased in the last three years. Those are facts. UCLA got timely hitting and other teams did not. I understand some do not like the style of play, but some love it. That is an opinion. If you go back and read some of the posts you will see several that feel UCLA's championship is somehow diminished because of the style of play. I disagree.
LOL...in the majority of ballparks, they're not even in the finals. TDA doesn't represent the average college baseball arena and gives an unfair advantage to small-ball clubs. If those fences were 25 feet closer as the park sits today, teams like LSU would have the unfair advantage and UCLA would have a legitimate complaint.
There's no disputing that scores and HRs are down drastically in college baseball. It is exacerbated at TDA. Hopefully, the NCAA will do the right thing and implement the baseballs used by the pros starting next year. Theoretically, that SHOULD restore some of the needed balance to the game. We'll see..
I agree. I heard on the radio that the rules committee does not meet in time to approve new baseballs for next year and the earliest it can happen is for the 2015 CWS. It seems we are stuck with things as is for now.
