No BS excuses. Death by a thousand cuts is still death. It's just a slow one. I don't personally like slow. I like big innings and home runs, regardless of the team. They've taken that out of the game.
Agreed. UCLA is easily the most garbage team that I've ever seen win it all, and perhaps that I've even seen in Omaha (although there was that one year when USL made it & subsequently got in a fight with Clemson). They can't hit for shit, and even their pitchers rely on the opposing hitters to swing at pitches that are consistently out of the zone. We probably could have scored 5+ runs on them had we just not swung the entire game. It really is a huge black eye on college baeball, and I think it's left a bad taste in many fans' mouths. But perhaps this is what it will have taken to get the attention of the powers that be...kinda like a do-over in football.
Apparently, I'm not alone in my thinking... http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/6359301-123/rabalais-cws-lack-of-offense "The offense, or lack of it, was offensive. UCLA hit .227, the lowest average by a CWS winning team in the metal bat era, which dates to 1974. The Bruins only got “up” to .227 because they banged out 12 hits in Tuesday’s 8-0 championship-series clinching win over Mississippi State. Before that, UCLA was hitting an even more anemic .183." "UCLA didn’t hit a home run, the first CWS champion not to do so since Ohio State in 1966." "Overall, UCLA scored only 19 runs, another all-time low by a CWS champion." "A 19-4 scoring ratio is what you want to see — in the World Cup. But this is baseball, where offense — and the home run — is supposed to be part of the show." You're trying to make UCLA into something it's not because you don't want to seem like a sore loser. The fact is that there were better overall teams there...just not any team better suited for that sorry field.
I quit watching period after LSU was eliminated, i mean whats the point... I cheer for LSU not moo state, or some left coast snore fest bitch team who cant hit, but can bunt their way into a NC? Nah, once LSU is out im out...
Yeah, I can definitely undestand that. But I just enjoy watching college baseball, and I like to learn about the other programs. But this years tournament was like watching a coed softball league where they make the males hit from their opposite side. I actually used to prefer college baseball over the majors because of the excitement. But now I strongly prefer MLB.
If that's where college baseball is heading, then I'll have to find something else to fill the gap between football seasons...and all because of a garbage ballpark!
AT, you know it's not just the ballpark. It's the bats and balls too. Adjustments need to be made there as well as to the park.
I agree to an extent. LSU and UNC won a helluva lot of games in dozen or so different parks, but from the first pitch in TDA, their offenses were more of a liability than an asset. We would have done much better if we had just bunted our way to the championship game. Not coincidentally, the only team to try that strategy was the team that won it all.
Attendance might have been great this year, but a couple of years after it becomes a bunt-fest, they will lose the casual fan. It might as well be cricket, at that point.
There are plenty of die-hard fans here in Omaha. Attendance will not suffer. It sounds like you are crying over spilled milk. LSU was not the best team this year, UCLA was and they have a trophy to prove it.
