It's been discussed in this thread and a couple of others. A good start would be to use the baseballs that the professionals use. The stitching is tighter, so it reduces the spin that college pitchers are able to put on the ball and it will eliminate the wind drag that hitters experience with the college ball. Studies have shown that this alone should add about 15ft to balls hit on HR trajectories that have been reduced to fly ball outs at TD Ameritrade. If the pro balls do not even out the game, then it's time to look at retooling the bats again. The bbcor bats, with their 2" sweet spot (compared to 4" on the bat used prior to 2011), combined with the raised stitched baseball, have taken the big inning out of the game today and given the pitchers an unfair advantage.
Valid point, but nothing and I mean NOTHING is worse than the 'Hotty Toddy' chant (if that's what you want to call it) used by Ole Miss. What an embarrassment.
That helps only in the CWS. We still have big stadiums in the SEC and the problem exists all year. People will vote with their feet if the game gets boring. Gorilla bats won't be back, but the medium sized bats could be. It is the slims that are causing the drop in production.
Ha! Yeah, that one is dreadful, as well. Is it coincidental that "hotty toddy" is phonetically similar to "hoity toity", which is exactly what ole miss fans are??
I boycotted the rest of the CWS after we got eliminated (not because we got eliminated, but because I could tell it was going to be a snooze fest where a terrible team could win it all). I was hoping to help drop the ratings for that piss-poor excuse for a baseball tournament. That seems to be the only way to get anyones attention.
Guh...Over the weekend, I was on the beach in Pensacola, trying to enjoy a peaceful outing, and about fifty feet down from me was a group hoisting a Miss State flag and clanging a damn cowbell. I didn't know if I wanted to puke, put my head underwater, or punch those guys in the face.
Oh god...I woulda fed 'em those damn cowbells. Here's what I don't get...why in the blue hell do they keep at it? They've never won anything, so clearly the prop isn't as effective as they must think it is.
I wonder if they bring them to their golf and tennis events... They might be just redneck enough to do it.
So far that is not happening. The crowds this year broke the attendance records for the new ballpark.
Many don't believe UCLA is the best team in the nation. More complete teams, like LSU and UNC, were not as good at small ball, and in that park, small ball is the only way to win. It's the only reason they got beat by a team that is batting under 200 in the postseason. If that trend continues, the CWS will become a farce for the baseball diehards, while lack of late-inning heroics taking a lot of the entertainment factor out of the game bores the Hell out of the casual fan. I mean, seriously...no more rallies? No more three-run blasts that save the day? No more heroes? Instead, we have teams like UCLA that slowly bleeds the life out of you in a park that makes it impossible to escape inevitable doom. No, thanks.
