Yes TH seems to have developed better vision and decision making with making the cuts. I also seem to see less opposing team's players around him when he made the catches, unlike last year for Jones when there are more opposing team's defending players who much closer to him when he made the catches. Is it also a matter of better special teams play by the rest of the team this year with the new special teams coach???
The problem isn't "catching the punt" it making the decision on whether to catch it or not, when to call the fair catch, and fielding the punt with people running all around you.
Agree, TH and the punt return team looked great. The problem, however, is that it was against No. Texas. Now, we have shown Auburn what TH is capable of, and have guaranteed that they will be punting to the sideline. He won't get much of a chance to return any punts, and when he does, we won't be blocking players that could not make our third punt team. What is concerning, is our kickoffs and punting. QBs need to be consistent, too. While we won the game, I was hoping we would do more in the passing game. Chris Mitchell had a very nice showing and solidified our #3 receiver position, so that was certainly a positive.
apparently les miles agrees that we found our punt returner (about time): from The Advocate: http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/28359154.html?showAll=y&c=y
Apparently there's a fairly substantial difference. Trindon had a lot of fumbles on punt returns in practice the past couple years. I'm just glad he learned it! I don't think many teams will give him the opportunity, but we'll need the shortest field we can get. You don't risk a turnover inside your own 20... I doubt thats ever been a concern at all.
The gunner is still a long way from the receiver on a kickoff. It's much easier to concentrate on the catch.
