And perhaps old age has clouded your vision.. :hihi: No.. but seriously -- why should a program in our situation (recruiting the way we have this decade) need to rebuild for 2 consecutive years?

Next year.. what will the excuse be?

I would be shocked if we didn't see something new.. but I just don't think it will be that much different. Perhaps more passing.. but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Look at USCw - the media annoited most dominant program of the decade. They're rebuilding this year too and they also have 4-5 stars across the board. It's not about talent. It's about developing that talent into working as one cohesive unit. Just look at all of the talent we've lost in the last 2 years. Glenn Dorsey was good as a freshman and sophomore, but he didnt really shine until his senior year, when he won all those defensive accolades. Wait at see what happens to Fla next year after #15 leaves.

Every team goes through this process from time to time and LSU is no exception.

Sometimes it just takes longer. We aren't operating in a vacuum. Having to dismiss Perrilloux last year and FOUR offensive linemen the previous year has left us thin in a couple of spots. But Les got rid of the troublemakers.

Nick bringing Bama back 2 years ahead of expectations and Ole Miss adding Nutt and Snead has changed the dynamic in the West Division and it never helps that we have had to play the National Champion winner or contender in Florida every single year. Some years they throw Georgia and Tennessee at us too. This is the SEC which is loaded with six championship contenders, year in and year out. Nobody wins them, including Florida and Alabama.

Nick and Bama were 7-5 two years ago. 8-4 down years don't mean squat in the upper tier of the SEC, everybody suffers them. Losing seasons are different and get men fired, but winning is cyclic, it always has been so for every team. It doesn't mean that LSU is in trouble or won't be back. It doesn't mean that Les is "bad." It just means that we play in the most competitive division of the most competitive league in major college football.

I think having to play that level of competition week in and week out is one of the reasons why we've been so successful in bowl games.

He got rid of the troublemakers that he recruited. That falls squarely on his shoulders.. I know he came in during a pinch and we're feeling the impact of our nearly non-existent 2006 recruiting class.. but that's on Miles. That's the only knock on his recruiting too. Attrition is pretty high lately.

And the teams at the top do not have 2 rebuilding years in a row. That honor is reserved for teams like Arkansas. LSU will be back.. the ridiculous amount of talent and resources we have available assure it. I could probably be the head coach and lead this team to at least a .500 season, there's just to much talent..

Not really. What are you talking about?

I suppose. Florida took 3 years (2002-04). Bama took 4 years (2004-07) and Ole Miss took about 20.

Whenever I hear this tired old line, I know I'm dealing with an unrealistic mindset. I give up on you, amigo.

That line annoys me, too. The guys who say "I could go .500 with that talent" wouldn't know their butts from a hole in the ground if given the keys to a football team. Please...

Some attrition is good, some is bad. Just yesterday (I think) you were talking about how attrition on the OL has hurt this team .

What happened to Florida in 2005? They got rid of Zook and inserted Meyer. They went 9-3 and then exploded. I don't think that strengthens your argument. Florida is an example in MY favor, I would think.

Bama was on probation.. not a good example.

Ole Miss.. is.. well Ole Miss :hihi:

I'm not even joking. On sheer talent alone this team is .500 I'd have to win vs Louisiana Tech, Tulane, ULL, Miss St, Vanderbilt, and then 1 game on the remainder of our schedule (Arkansas, Auburn, Washington).

.500 is the opposite of impressive. But anyone with a pulse could lead a team as talented as LSU to that type of record.

i agree with bmy. the team would likely go .500 or better without a HC. i dont think bmy would contribute anything but chavis and crowton know what they are doing.
