Idiots and the Reveille apparently go hand-in-hand. Read this: http://www.lsureveille.com/brooks_blazing_saddles_has_lost_its_humor_over_time
<sarcasm>I can't believe the band has the audacity to play music in the stadium. Don't they know games are there for student to yell obscenities instead?</sarcasm>
At North Texas I sat next to the band. They've replaced the "Oh wee oh" with other songs. "Hey Baby" and "Neck" were two of the songs they played. But remember, Tiger Band is stuck in the 80s, before cursing was cool. :rolleye33:
The extended Tiger Rag first disappeared in the 80s (1987 State game to be exact). Too many people across the nation clearly heard the "*********, *********" the week before in the loss to AMAB. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they brought it back. (Maybe they should play "Touchdown" after touchdowns and "Fight for LSU" after FGs--Just a thought.) As far as the "OH-WE-OH" goes, while I liked the tradition of holding the note until the kick-off, I think "Neck" has replaced it pretty well. The students don't know how good they have it. They do play just those now... Tiger Rag was only played during Pre-Game and some away games. I remeber playing it once in Tiger Stadium (outside of pregame) during my 4 years (2001-2004) and it was a because of a screw up by one of the Graduate Assistants. Needless to say the directors were not happy campers. They took away playing till the kick-off in 2002 because Florida wined saying us playing during the kickoff was breaking rules... They were looking for an excuse as to us handing them an a$$ whippin in the swamp that year. So from then on when we stoped it before the actual kickoff. What I love is that the students just started doing stuff to this in 04 or 03 but they claim its been a tradition for decades. And the "you suck' part didn't start catching on till maybe 07. The current students need to do a little research before they start claiming stuff is decades old tradition.
I say make all the freshman guys shave their heads and where beanies to the first home game... or how bout all the males who enroll at the university join the ROTC (obviously exlcuded foreign students), is that too far? Curfews for female dorms... etc. I mean if they are all about preserving decades old traditions that have been ousted than I say let them do it:grin:
