we just gave up 487 yard TO to Wazzu. I hate to say this but we are going to get raped when we play Tebow and Snead. Even UGA and Bama looked better than we did.

I do have to admit, in watching last night's game, I counted losses to Ole Miss (Snead would kill us), Florida and Bama and doubted a win vs Georgia and wondered about Vandy, with the way we were playing.

Both sides of the line of scrimmage have got to improve dramatically. They both received a grade of C-/D+ for me.

I am hoping to chalk this up to a long trip up to Washington in what proved to be a hostile environment and a learning curve of Chavis' defense as well as Crowton not having confidence to open it up just yet on offense.

Even if you look at the improvement in the 2nd half, you can see that all is not lost. I think Clair said we only gave up 70 yards on defense (and 3 points) until that last prevent defense drive (which I hated). And the offense did open up a bit in the passing game and we fared much better.

Let's wait til the Vandy game and we will know a lot more.

I'm pretty sure they didn't exect wash to show up and hit them in the mouth like that, so they had a very vanilla gameplan. They'll open it up on both sides a bit against Vandy, but I don't expect them to let everything loose against them.

What scares me is the lack of penetration by the D line and all the zone D. This secondary was recruited to play man and jam at the line, let them do their thing. They were not used to playing so much zone coverage and it showed horribly

You CANNOT defend a spread formation with a 4-3 vanilla zone. You just can't. We tried that last year and got humiliated, and I'll be damned if we don't start off this year trying to do it.

Too soon to panic. Locher is a better quarterback than Tebow.

I'm going to watch a replay before I get too vocal but I remember one play where Cutrera was in the middle of the field playing zone. He had at least 50 acres of empty space around him. Poor guy never had a chance.

So many things wrong with this post. First, Wazzu is Washington State. We didn't play them. Second, perhaps we can give Chavis and crew a couple more games. I'm concerned as well. But don't panic. Third, Bama and UGA are very good teams. You act like they're bottom tier SEC.

I'm going to have to disagree that UGA looked better than we did. They didn't win that game in Stillwater and pretty much folded after they lost the early lead.

As for Bama, let's not pass judgement until we see what Va Tech ends up doing. Just like Clemson last year, they were probably vastly overrated at #7, as they simply do not have an offense. Plus, things like McClain's extremely poor sportsmanship display that should've gotten him ejected from the game (shoving an official, are you kidding me?), suggest to me that Saban may not have as much control of his players as one might think.

Locker impressed the heck out of me. He may end up being one of the best QB's we face all season--certainly better than McElroy or Cox. And I'll go ahead and say I'm happy we have Jefferson, instead of one of those two guys.

Dude... don't.... just, just don't. You'll thank me for it.

And does anyone think that the changes will be so significant that, by the time we play the Florida, we have a shot? I think what bothers a lot of people is that this defense looks a lot like last year's. There was a lot less looking to the sideline by the defense this time, but they were still playing prevent and the results were the same.

    1. washington is a better team this year--- in just one game they proved to their fan base they are better than their winless previous season.

    2. im still in awe of our once touted and bragged about defense-- where are they what has happened-- why didnt a bo pelini understudy stay and maintain that scheme-- we obviously know it worked

    3. we're still a young defense in the secondary- and yes if we play zone we're dead.

    4. i agree with some that said we just didnt want to give many looks to upcoming oppoenents and with the exception of the defense i agree-- we scored pretty much at will throwing the ball-- but to set that up we had to make the run a threat too-- we just were baiting them. i agree with this strategy but maek sure the win is a given

    5. the team has to start somewhere-- we have time--- look at the positive-- jarrett lee played and we didnt have a pick 6-- BAM! improvement over last season.

    6. i think they can beat oregon and cant wait til they play notre lame
