New Orleans Saints defensive back Usama Young is out on bond after his arrest Monday in Harahan on traffic violations. Young, 24, was booked with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and flight from an officer using a motor vehicle, according to arrest records. He was also booked on a municipal traffic attachment. The traffic stop occurred about 3:14 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Colonial Club Drive when Harahan police officers clocked Young going 55 miles per hour in 40-mile-per-hour zone, according to Harahan Police Chief Peter Dale. "They got behind him, they put on the lights and sirens and he went about a half-mile before he pulled over," said Dale, explaining the flight from an officer charge. "He didn't give them any trouble. He was cooperative." The traffic attachment stems of a Dec. 18 ticket for parking in a handicapped parking space issued in the parking lot of Lakeside Shopping Center, 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie, according to court records. Young missed a Feb. 13 court date in Jefferson First Parish Court, and an attachment was issued when he failed to appear for a second court date on March 3. Young was released from Jefferson Parish Correction Center in Gretna Monday after posting a $7,500 bond.
Harahan Police are notoriously awful. Lets see, 1/2 mile @ 55 mph is about 30 seconds. I've taken longer than that before to find a safe place to pull over.
