I think Tamba Hali was the DE before they went to a 3-4. He's a linebacker now I think.

And before that Jared Allen.

 

I would like to see LSU run a 3-4 next year, with Montgomery and Mingo/Baker on the outside as linebackers, and Brockers, Freak, and Downs on the D line. Inside linebackers i have no idea. would be interesting though.

 

Even then, can't really imagine Dorsey coming in off the edge and putting much of a pass rush. Jackson is a better 3-4 DE bc of his quickness although they are similar in weight.

 

That's the job of a LB in the 3-4 not the DE.
