It no better in the country. I own a house in North Louisiana on rural acreage that had a septic tank for 60 years that worked fine by water pressure and gravity. But it's no longer up to code in the watershed and had to be replaced with a $5,000 two-tank+sprinker-field system. It now requires electrical power to run pumps, aerators, and agitators.
