Maybe it's gonna take this program to hit rock bottom to return LSU football back to the real fans, i remember the 80's and 90's, it didn't matter who we played, what the score was, just as long as we were all there, with good friends, and good food, and family, it was the experience that was more important than the outcome. And rock bottom to them is a 7 win season and a crappy bowl game. Rock bottom to us is 2 to 3 wins, and getting blown out in half the games you play. It's all about money now. The coaches get paid crazy money, ticket prices and concessions are soaring, you have to donate money to TAF to get in line for season tickets. With that money comes enormous pressure to win, and now we have the internet and 24 hour sports news, blogs, and people bitching about everything. There were alot of fans who jumped aboard in the last decade, lots of them were just too young to remember the 90's, so to them LSU has been the toast of the town as long as they have watched football. At least we didn't lose to Jacksonville State.
There's an entitlement mindset afoot in LSU fandom. Spend money, geaux see game, must witness excellence. Its a cultural mirror. FWIW - I enjoy LSU football games more now than I ever have. Mostly because I know far more about it now, thanks to recruiting sites, forums, blogs, team websites, access to media guides and game notes, etc. When I first joined the forum a few years ago, someone (CParso, I think) said he'd come to enjoy recruiting as much or more than the actual games. I didn't understand what he meant then like I do now. And I feel differently than he did/does - I merge the two. I enjoy LSU football so much now BECAUSE I enjoy the recruiting drama so much. It's part of what makes college football so much better than the NFL for me. Watching kids grow up and become amazing athletes while wearing purple and gold. Very cool. Patrick Peterson and Russel Shepard, hell Kelvin Sheppard. Kevin Faulk, Mike Ford, Josh Downs! The list goes on. Love it. (Yes, I know....not as long as Les Miles is their coach. Wasted talent, the end is near, nothing will change. I gotcha, bro. :rolleye33
I was young in the 90's, Loved LSU, but didnt understand the game or what it ment. Though even now with my current view of nothing but baddass LSU teams, I am still ok with this team. Do I want LSU to lose? NO. BUT WTF am I going to do about it? Not watch them? Nah, then LSU just loses money. If people cant take the positives from that game and HOPE for the best, then they have issues further than Miles, JJ, Crowton and Chavis.o: There is a reason I watched tons of teams Saturday, I LOVE THE GAME. Guess who my Fav team is? LSU!BABY!!!!!
Funny, from some of the comments I see around here, I thought TigerForums was the only place that has disgruntled LSU fans. :rolleye33:
Nope. The part that really got me steamed was when people saw the Oregon score and thought we sucked because we weren't doing the same thing. UNC and New Mexico, according to them, were of the same cut.
They've coined a term, "Negatigers" on another forum...roughly 90% of the posters. :hihi: The bunch I drink coffee with (and it's a big group) were still fired up this morning. Whew! Emotions were very high in expressing anit-Miles sentiments.
Oh, I see now..."negatigers"....whew, for a minute there I thought it was a pretty racist thing for you to say. my bad.
Only a racist would read it like that. fwiw, the "other side" are called "Positigers". If you have a dirty mind...
