This. My roommate is a Notre Dame fan so he can't say sh*t, my girlfriend knows to walk on egg shells on gameday, and nobody else in NY gives a damn about college football, much less the Tigahs. It's really easy to insulate yourself from the loonies.
You know, in 2008, when I was stationed in Florida, I would watch all games every Sat with some guys at work.. 1 of which was a UF guy, a UGA guy and a South Carolina guy. I had to **** through there chit every week. Though, for some odd reason, I took a $50 bet that LSU would beat GT. I don’t know why, but every time I have given up on LSU in a game, they do the unthinkable. Same thing for BLOWING A LEAD… SO I put down money on LSU for nothing more than faith.... 1 Prime example was TROY! Now I watch games by MYSELF! And love it. Though I might have to stop chatting on TF on close games…
Extremely well said, tirk. You know, I have been a Les Miles defender in previous years, after all the man did coach a team to a national championship. Yeah, I know everybody said those guys were Saban's recruits, but we have some very talented players on this team as well as the past couple of teams. However, last season was difficult to defend, and now, the way this season has started looks like we are in for more of the same. I really hope that is not the case. They always say a team improves the most from game one to game two so I am withholding judgment until after this Saturday. It's just that with all the positive comments coming out of Fall practice, anticipation was high. I was in the Atlanta Dome for the game, and I can tell you first hand that a tremendous amount of LSU fans had looks of WTH on their faces. I actually stood and applauded the UNC players as they left the field. Those guys played like they really wanted to win the game, they never gave up and deserved respect. It seemed we played a pretty good first half, but then we checked out for the second half. One thing I noticed, if a guy fumbled when Saban was coach, he sat down and the next guy got a chance. If you could not protect the ball you did not play. Also, if you smacked a guy when he was out of bounds you got your butt chewed on, you didn't get told, 'It's all right.' I also don't see why Jarrett Lee doesn't even get a chance to run a series or two in the game. Let's see if he has improved and can run this offense and be the leader this offense needs. At least, give him another chance. I know he was dismal in his one start last season, but JJ was not great all year either. They are both a year older. Give the guy a chance to see what happens.:geaux:
greenie and i pretty much have me watching lsu games down to a good understanding. i have to start by pretty much locking myself in my office with the tv and computer. he is just waaaay too calm about lsu and in the early days would try to tell me not to get nervous. i guess it's because what i consider way too close or not so good, is a game he would love to have with his team. (i dont mean that as snark, it really is just the difference of what we are each used to.) now, like i said, i am by myself in my office. if he hasnt been watching, he might get the nerve to stick his head in a few times to ask how it is going. i think he listens at the door first for my reactions to the game to know if it is safe to do so. if a game is going really well, i will come out now and then to watch a play here and there with him in the living room if he is watching. but generally i retreat back to my office. of course, if he is watching/listening to tulane, it is his and hers tvs/computers throughout the games. of course, all of that is for away games. for home games we are in ts. but i hate it when a few grown men around me are hyper critical of the players. its ok to be critical of a play but they go overboard on ragging on the kids. i hate that! i want to knock the snot out of them.
I think most fans i know feel the same. The excuse many of his detractors use is that talent wins games in spite of him. Unfortunately, thats pretty much what happened Saturday. The skill players won the game. The coaching was pretty bad on both sides of the ball. They dont get an A for one half and an F for the next. They get an F for failing their players. They clearly hurt the team instead of just simply getting the hell out of the way. Now I take shots at Miles. I always have. Its because I do not trust him. I dont think he has a clue half the time and its proven on the sideline more than I care to admit. But I like the guy. I just love LSU so I want whats best and I dont think, deep down, he is it. There are more capable coaches out there. But we have learned from our past. Transition isnt easy even if the situation arises. Just because you get a better x's and o's guy doesnt guarantee you anything. Should Miles be fired? Hell no. No freaking way. It wouldnt take much adaptation to get this team where it needs to be. A simple change in philosophy could make miles a lifer here if he so chooses. But like some fans, Miles himself, is reluctant to change. All in all, Miles is a good man. He's earned the right to stay. There's no guarantee we get someone better if the time comes but fear of change is no reason to stay idle either. If you are scared of change you can never grow. And I think its likely LSU could grow -more- under a better coach. Its a decision too soon to make, fortunately, because its complicated and not easy for anyone involved. However, if Miles doesnt regain the fan's confidence this year, then next year could be his last. We'll just have to see how it plays out. The ball is in his court.
Unfortunately, watered-down tea was the beverage of choice on gameday. Sad, I know. I cant say the same for Shane.
